Hotels Near De Rohan Arch in Haz-Zebbug

Almost perfect My wife and I stayed for three nights this summer. This small hotel (just eighteen rooms), set in an old palace within the city walls of Mdina, is incredibly beautiful, the views from the rooms (pick one with a panoramic view, and don’t choose duplex if you can’t manage stairs) are superb, and the staff are wonderfully helpful and attentive. The only disappointment for me was that after all the reviews, I was looking forward to treating my wife to a birthday meal at the hotel’s Michelin starred restaurant, but when we arrived, we learned this restaurant was fully booked for and indeed beyond our stay. The helpful staff booked us into local restaurants as an alternative, but it was naturally not quite the same. Unless the hotel starts emailing people upon booking asking if they want to make reservations for their best restaurant (I imagine most guests will want them), I suggest you make your booking for this restaurant when you book your room. We will next time, and we will definitely be back. Other than that, a quite wonderful stay, and I would like to thank all the staff and management for making it so. Highly recommended.

Superficially this hotel appears quite stylish but on closer inspection it is starting to show signs or wear ie in just our bathroom there were holes in the tiles that scratched our feet, a filthy rusted toilet brush and a a lock that didn’t work. The air conditioning was ineffective- so much so that our children overheated in their part of the family room as there was no air conditioning in there and subsequently had to sleep on floor of main room. The cleaners also left all sorts of items outside our room like ladders, buckets of dirty water, dirty towels which didn’t make for an enjoyable experience each time we left our room. Pool was pretty but tiny and hugely overcrowded which made it quite unpleasant and we couldn’t use indoor pool as local children having swimming lessons! The worst part were staff who seemed sad and depressed and virtually none of them spoke to us during our 2 night stay. The worst part was on arrival when I was berated for booking our 16 year old as a child. I had done this through a booking platform so it wasn’t my fault but the receptionist would not listen and was incredibly rude saying I should have paid more! Not the best welcome. Food was very overpriced so are in lovely local restaurants. Parking terrible and you have to park streets away which isn’t made clear!

This was a nice B@B, although for some reason I was expecting more hotel luxury given the online reviews. The room was clean and spacious, the bathroom was also good, showers good, towels not that absorbent, no bath., bed and pillows very good. The breakfast had to be pre-ordered (to a given time) and the selection was not that extensive. There was no option to cook your own toast. Coffee was from a push button machine and on the cool side. The location of the hotel was quite good, down from the main square and close to both catacombs and Mdina old town. Also close was Maltas extensive bus route terminal. From Rabat it is about a 20 min bus ride to the capital of Valletta. There is also an airport route. The hotel has a pool and vending machine, unsure if it provides meals other than breakfast. My main ‘beef’ was that the cleaning service was quite intrusive, for example would go to breakfast at 7.30 (earliest time) and would return to find the cleaner in my room (no DND sign was available), she even took it upon herself to fold my clothes I had left to dry. They also discarded bottles that I wanted to reuse. ( when I book a room I like to think I can put ‘stuff’ where I want and not have people move it). However overall the accommodation is good, particularly for its location. I stayed for 6 nights, think 2-3 would have been ample as there are many other properties on Malta that are similar yet in diff. locations. (get to experience more of the island).

The location is convenient with restaurants and plenty of buses nearby but it's also a quite poor and ugly neigbourhood. It seems to be in the process of being gentrified with lot's of construction in the quarter but there are also many abandoned and broken buildings around. Generally it feels a bit sketchy. The Hotel itself is a new construction, designed well and very clean. My biggest complaint however is the service and staff. Unfortunately I was given one of the worst rooms, where the balcony was facing a wall, so there was almost no daylight in the room. When enquiring if a room change is possible, the receptionist blantly lied to my face and said they were fully booked. When I checked online for the same dates and room category, there was still plenty available, even in higher categories. So instead of trying to upsell me or finding another solution to satisfy me as a customer, they treated me like cattle.

Inhawi Boutique Hostel is a great place to stay. It's really close to the ocean, there are supermarkets, bars and restaurants nearby. The bus stop is really close as well. So the location is great. The staff is for the most parts very friendly, helpful and accommodating. My brother and I had a great time at the hostel. The facilities are good. The pool and chill out area downstairs are great. The rooms are big enough and they are clean. The breakfast was one of the best hostel breakfasts I ever had. I would highly recommend this hostel and if in Malta again stay there myself anytime. Starting with the information - we stayed at So City as a young couple (who arent particularly into nightclubs/bars) to see Matla for the first time over a week. I have given this a 'benefit-of-the-doubt' rating due to the hotel being incredibly new. We picked So City Hotel because of the value, it was incredibly well priced. I'd imagine this is a strategy due to it being so new but it was certainly well worth the price we paid. On to the hotel as a whole - I feel this is definitely aimed toward capturing people coming to Malta for some night life. Its positioned so that no more than 10 seconds from leaving the lobby, you can be in a bar, and their are some nice bars surrounding. That said, we werent there for that - but this location also meant that finding an evening meal, or a quick early night drink was incredibly easy. Exploring the island was also very easy from here, Valletta was a very short journey, and as we had opted to rent a car, there was a carpark about 5 minutes walk away (Pengardens) which is reasonably priced for over night parking, and we never struggled for a space. The room was very comfortable, and the mattress was perfect and bedding very soft and comfortable. Our upgraded room was also incredibly spacious. The theming is a nice touch and makes the room a bit more characterful and individual. Staying on the 7th floor, there was minimal noise at night, altough id be concerned if we needed to keep the window open.... The black out curtains were also amazing for keep the room dark for a little bit of extra sleep. Constructive criticism for the room would be: The shower tempurture is difficult - the hottest setting is insanely hot (my other half loves hot showers but this was too much for her also) and it wouldnt go cold, just cooler, it also seemed to get colder through out the shower and you found yourself adjusting. There is not a lot of storage at all for longer stays. This is perhaps a by product of it feeling aimed towards 'nightlifers' who might stop 3 nights or so. I would perhaps ask reception for additional hangers if you have plenty of clothes for a longer stay. The mini fridge, altough useful, is not big enough to put larger water bottles in, which can be annoying. The aircon unit is situated in a place which means it blows directly at the bed. I tried to play with the control but there was no way to adjust it that I could find. Im trying to cool the room, not refridgerate myself. The timer on the aircon also didnt seem to work, so setting it the blow for 30 mins whilst i went to sleep just didnt seem to work. The TV is not a full smartTV which is a shame. Just channels and an internet browser, which are never nice to navigate around.... On to other notes: Breakfast is just what you need. Its not an all out buffett where there is everything you could dream of, but there is more than enough and a few items cycle so you can expect a slightly different breakfast each morning. It was so good that I thought it was a pity that I only stayed for one night. The Mediterranean restaurant located inside the resort was not very tasty, but the breakfast was very good. It was an English breakfast buffet (sausage, bacon, eggs, etc.), and there was also a little Turkish breakfast menu (ham, cheese, tomato, cucumber). The staff were friendly and the amenities were good~ It's nice to see nearby Bujiba.

The hotel is very clean, very hot outdoor swimming pool. The buffet is very repetitive and not terrible. It is better to eat at the map or outside. The hapy hours is not valid for the buffet. Incredible anyway. Otherwise excellent quality price and cheap drinks.

I traveled to Malta alone and chose the Primera Hotel as one of the cheapest options in Malta. In principle, the travel guide says that Valletta is the best place to stay, but I would not agree with this, as it is an hour from St. Paul's Bay to Valletta, an hour to the ferry to Gozo and half an hour to Rabat/Mdina. Excursions such as to the Blue Grotto only go via Valletta and it takes 2 hours by bus. However, you can combine this with a travel route via Valletta or as the last spot before the airport. The hotel was clean, the rooms were more than adequately equipped and for €8 you could book breakfast on site, which was a bit English but had something for everyone. The only thing that could be difficult is being able to eat more than just fruit and bread as a vegan.

My sister and I needed a good getaway. As such, we chose to visit Malta and we stayed at Ibis Styles St Paul Bay Malta. Our experience was amazing. The staff members were very welcoming and humble.
