Wild Orchid Resort - Havelock Island

Excellent place to stay. Hospitality was so good. Traditional bamboo house.

They will give check in at 1 pm...not a great place too...not located on beach..avoid this resort as there are better resorts at much cheaper price on Havelock..dont go for this. Premises are not well maintained. Location is not good even..

Extremely disappointing to think that anyone would deem it fine to run a resort which is so run down without renovating / revamping the place. It’s like the rooms are in the middle of a junkyard with loads of junk like unused furniture, kitchen furniture etc lying around in the garden. The garden is badly maintained too & all the poor plants are either half dead / dying. There are so called ponds which are dirty & more like sewage ponds within the property.There is no access to the beach through the resort..you have to go outside & access it via the road. Just 5 mins though. The front desk seems to be clueless about anything & everything. It was bearable as we’re experienced travellers, so after the first day, we knew how to get around & what to do & whom to ask. Excuses for not knowing about transportation, food, restaurants etc. when you’re in the hospitality business is not ok. We asked the front desk for an auto to go for dinner at ‘Something different’….we ended up paying Rs.450/- which is more than regular autos & were later told by ‘Someting different’ that they have pick up & drop facility for patrons. Even this basic information the front desk doesn’t have. On the day we were checking out, we’d asked for a cab to be arranged to the jetty. The cab guy took off leaving us stranded because he had to wait for 15 mins. The hotel staff, nor the front desk had a clue what to do, nor did they seem interested in doing anything until I started losing my patience. Even then they were making a half hearted attempt to do nothing. Finally in a panic, I called the auto driver who had helped us in our travels through the whole week ( a very good person who we found ) & he arranged for two autos to take us within 5 mins. Same thing that a ‘chain of hotels’ couldn’t manage to to. The rooms were clean though basic, but did find one or two cockroaches. The room cleaning was done regularly & properly. The only saving grace is the breakfast which was very good & the manager - Geoffrey who seemed to have quite a number of good suggestions about what to do on the island, which was useful & helpful. I think you’ll need to firstly understand who are the type of customers you’ll want to cater to. Sorry for the realistic review, but you’ll really need to wake up & pull up your socks.

We had been waiting to go to Wild Orchid for many years. We had a full two weeks there on the Andaman Islands. The room was nice and quite large, bathroom was adequate but could be updated but was fine. Breakfast was fine and staff and manager always courteous and helpful if needed. Water is provided in thermos type refillable bottles which we put in the fridge! The location was not on the beach but many places to go down to the beach if required nearby! Plenty of places near to walk. We found Wild Orchid restaurant a bit trendy for us, plus music was often very loud which seems to be an Andaman thing we noticed a lot of places. Our only complaint, nothing the hotel can do about it, was traffic noise. The hotel is set on a fairly busy road with traffic starting very early about 0530. We are not used to this so we're awake very early! We walked lots and visited the capital town, Dolphin resort bar and beach, ate mainly at the famous seafood restaurant!

Room is big size and decorated like a wild jungle resort. Linen towels etc are clean and good quality. Restaurant serves latin american food. Breakfast menu is limited. Dont have intercom from room. Its a very small property. Not much place to roam around inside. Average resort little overpriced. Manager and other staff are well mannered and courteous n helpful.

Nice ambience overall. Small. 14-15 rooms. No room service. no phone in the room. No lunch. Breakfast average. bathrooms not acceptable. Stained shower curtainns. Tiles have cement marks. Housekeeping available only in the mornings.
