The Havana libre, formerly known as the Havana Hilton. This is one of the best kept classic hotels in Havana. The rooms are neat and clean, the internet works very well for Havana. Location in Verado is perfect. You are across the street from the legendary ice cream parlor copelia Cine Yara a classic movie theater is also across the street. The hotel has a small shopping mall in the hotel where you can get essentials it also has a very well stocked liquor store and one of the best cigar stores in Havana operated by La Casa del Habano The state cigar company. The property is managed by Melia, a Spanish hotel company. The staff by and large speaks English, and are very helpful I have stayed at other properties in Havana, but the combination of location cleanliness and the friendliness of staff makes the Havana libre my choice in Havana

Let me start by saying that Cuba is Beautiful. I enjoyed my trip but unfortunately I had some issues with this hotel. Pros: - Breakfast was good, there could be a bit more variety as the buffet did not change much during our stay. - The staff was very welcoming, especially Rene the bellman, Victor and the ladies/ staff at breakfast service. - Central location in the city, walking distance to restaurants. - Great view from the rooms on the higher floors. Cons: - Hot water is not consistent. Stayed for 7 nights and I had hot water less than half the time. - Towels need to be replaced, very dingy and stained. - My room had lots of roaches. I informed the front desk multiple times and nothing was done. Roaches were also in my family members rooms. - The elevators are a nightmare and need to be replaced. They take a really long time to come to your floor (we were on the 24th floor) and malfunction on occasion. - Internet disconnected often and had to be reset by the front desk. Overall it was not the best but the staff does what they can. I enjoyed the live music in the lobby but I wouldn't stay here again unless the hotel gets a serious make over.

Dated hotel, in need of refurbishment works, I do not consider it a 4 star hotel, given the state and services, it is a 3 star. The breakfast is poor, few options and the pastries and bread very dry. Juices are not natural and there is no orange juice, just as coffee is not espresso. Dated rooms, although our family member was in the room next to ours and was slightly more modern. Bathroom looks so old and dirty. Do not drink tap water, the hotel (4 stars!!) only gives 1 bottle of water on the first day, the following ones have to be paid... I found it bizarre, even more so that we are in a country that should not drink tap water. Super dirty elevators, corridors with sloppiness in maintenance. Electricity outlets in the rooms are not westernized, they are all 110 V, if you don't bring an adapter it is not possible to charge anything. Friendly reception staff and helped in arranging a transformer so we could have our appliances charged. From the doorman to the breakfast room staff there will be a lot of approach to exchange money, it bothers to have this conversation constantly. Many restaurants accept dollars and euros, but it's good to have a few pesos for some need, because not everyone exchanges at the best rate. The Hotel has a Coffee Shop Restaurant outside, we had lunch there on January 5th and I paid in pesos, at night the first question of the waiter was not what I wanted to eat, but if I had a card to pay the bill... I told him that I had pesos and in extreme arrogance he told me that it was not possible to pay in cash, not even after saying that at lunch he had made payment that way... Imagine how they treat the tourists! Of course, the employees' business is to make low exchange rates and earn from these transactions. This shows well the schemes inside the hotels, in the morning it's one thing and at night another... and no one from the Hotel Management wants to know that this happens! The internet in the hotel is slow or almost nil, I advise you to buy a local card with 10G in Havana and it costs €25. We bought it in an official store, you need a passport and debit or credit card. In short, this hotel does not leave any nostalgia and I will not return for sure!!

I was here for a weekend ,but this hotel necessarily needs to close and repair more than anything. The lack of air condition in common areas like lobby, hallways, restaurants and club makes the stay very uncomfortable. The room was ok because the aircondition there was the only thing good.Beds medium quality and two instead og a king I asked for.No water bottle not even as a welcoming courtesy so if you are like me arriving late from airport better bring you water from your country because everything is closed .There is a tv in the room that cannot be seen because is damaged so concentrate in the city view. The restaurant menu not good and expensive and the elevator is a challenge to take and imagine in floor 23 you need it.Breakfast was good and the best service given by the old waiters so professional I think it was the only impressive thing in this hotel. The pool full of nationals that pay to be in ad consume but they yell at all time or you cannot get in because they are by pool stairs kissing and hugging very disgusting performances in a place like this.No body cares about turists and pool beds are really dirty too.I decided to go to the club on Saturday for some music and almost didnt let me in because it was reserved for young suppossedly university students after I had to get two stairs to go floor 25th due to elevator not coming for 40 minutes. If you want to get a nightmare stay in Havana so here is the place.

Our room is big with big glass window overlooking the city plus ocean. It’s beautiful hotel just only bad maintenance, workers very few English speaking, food salty, safe with guards , location is busy streets , restaurant in same hotel , bar is downstairs but the singing group entertainment asking for money/tips, sells their CD, I love Cuba their culture, they love dollars coz it’s strong, Be ready to speak Spanish very few English, cheap goods , dollar is equal 280 to 300 pesos , hotel maid will leave a note to give her tips coz she work daily to clean the room .

Nightmare at the hotel. No hot water on the first night. WIFI sporadic, multiple log ins and outs. They changed the breakfast area in a really bad area, artificial light. Really bad coffee, the guy at the egg preparation station not experienced and awfully slow. At the pool thay ask you for a deposit of 1500 CUP for some really tattered towels.

This hotel was the first i stayed at when my Cuba travels began - and it had worried for the rest of my trip. So many things with regards to this hotel were okay - nothing to note, but the total disregard for firesafety in this 20+ story hotel was SCARY! I would not have known this if it wasn't for the fact that none of the hotels 6 elevators were working! (I stayed there for 3 nights and the maximum number of working elevators was 2/6, sometimes non at all) This lack of working elevators meant using the stairs when I had to get to and from my room on the 22nd floor! This stairwell was also the fire escape with connecting fire escape doors on each floor. Many of these floors were under renovation, but all the fire doors had been left open!! Any fire would have spread so fast as a result of this - and it left me very scared. I would not recommend anyone to stay here, unfortunately.
