This may be the hotel closest to Itsukushima Shrine. The room is very large, and with the tatami, it feels like it can accommodate 4 people, which is suitable for a family. There are Chinese-speaking waiters for check-in and dining, which is a good experience. The food level is not inferior to a well-known chain hot spring hotel I stayed in a few days ago. Fortunately, I was arranged to have a room with a terrace and rocking chair that can see the big torii. It is worth staying on the island for one night. You can go to see the night view of the torii at night, and you can hear the deer calling when climbing the mountain in the morning.

Decided to stay at this hotel because of its close proximity to Itsukushima Shrine and the Torii Gate. Wanted somewhere that I can quickly go to take sunset shots and quickly head back to the hotel, given the low temperature during evening. It was within <5 min walk. A ********* lady staff managed my check-in and introduced me to my room. She also served my delicious dishes during dinner and I was relieved as I need not worry about using Japanese to communicate. Night falls and I was unfortunately down with a bad stomach flu with constant vomitting. Needed urgent assistance but had to wait till 7am before there is English/Chinese speaking staff to manage my concerns. Thankfully there was a clinic open from 9am-12pm, given that it was a Saturday. The hotel helped me to book a taxi there as I wqs too weak to walk. Before that, a male Japanese hotel staff gave me some medicine to curb my vomiting. I really appreciated these help rendered by the various hotel staff, especially when I was travelling alone. Thank you and I hope to visit again.

Perfect location 3min from the large tori. Very large rooms. Western style: very comfy beds. The Japanese style rooms are even larger. Futons ok but quite hard (we did put an extra futon under ours. Bathroom is somewhat outdated but functional. Breakfast is very good and plentiful. Diner with a multi course menu is excellent. Staff is super friendly and helpful but has very basic knowledge of English.

We decided to stay the night in Miyajima to avoid the crowds of daytrippers to the island and so glad we stayed here. The staff were so friendly. A special thank you to Takashi Yoshimuta. The room was Western with a very spacious with a Japanese area next to it. Beds were comfy and sheets were good.

I first visited Miyijima in 2011, as a day trip from Hiroshima (like most people). This time I knew I wanted to stay for a couple of nights on the island - which proved to be a great decision as the island is so enchanting in the evening once most of the tourists have gone back to the mainland. Most of the accommodations on the island are Japanese in style, and so it’s an obvious place to get the full Japanese experience. Unfortunately I struggled a bit to find somewhere to book, as many traditional-style places don’t accept solo travellers, however the Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto did and so I booked it. I booked a Japanese/western style room, which had twin beds plus a large tatami mat area where additional guests could sleep on futons. The room was large, although the bathroom was very small. My room came with a large outside balcony area (by the looks of it only a couple of rooms get this - it’s not the norm) with a swing seat overlooking a side view to the Tori gate. This was a really lovely place to sit in the evenings. The staff were very helpful, and I had a lovely personal and detailed introduction to the room, which can’t have been easy for them to do in English! One of the main features of a ryokan-style stay is the food, which is plentiful, extravagant, intricate and (to us westerners) very unusual. They accommodated my request for no shellfish with no issues. You have to be a bit of an adventurous eater (by western standards) as many of the flavours and textures are very unusual. Not all were to my taste, which is to be expected, but regardless the meal was a fantastic experience that I will never forget. The second night was a completely different menu, which they tailored to my request to include more meat (the Hiroshima beef was delicious). I was served by some lovely ladies who explained each of the 12 courses to me. The Japanese breakfast is similarly extravagant, although I did opt for the western breakfast on my second day which was lovely. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel if you want a traditional ryokan-style experience on the island. I would certainly return to it.

First, I had booked a 47m2 twin Japanese-Western room, but I was shown a normal Japanese-style room. When I explained that this was not what I had booked, they changed it to a twin room, but although it was a twin room, it felt much smaller. Second, when I entered the room, the temperature was low, so I asked them to turn on the heater, but they said the heater was on. I thought it was strange, but it was cold, so I put on layers of loungewear to ward off the cold. It was cold in the middle of the night, and the large public bath was closed, so I filled the bathtub in my room with hot water to warm my body. In the morning, I was shivering from the cold, so I went directly to the front desk and asked them to turn on the heater, and they turned it on at 7:30am. The food was great, and I was also happy with the warm service. That's why I wish there hadn't been two disappointments.

The hotel itself is good, but it is old and dirty in places. I stayed in a Japanese-Western room, but there was a stain on the tatami mat. The ocean side was under renovation, so I got a room facing the mountain, but the view was not that great. The food was adequate, but there were no raw oysters. There was a bit of pressure from an older woman who kept pushing me to hurry up and eat her recommended dishes. The night tour of the shrine, which is unique to this hotel, does not involve entering the shrine, but explains the history while looking at the shrine. The voices are loud, so people who are not involved can hear. You don't have to stay at Arimoto to participate. The bath is not a hot spring, so there are no particular comments to make.

I booked the inn through a travel agency, so to be honest I didn't have high expectations, but I was very satisfied. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a Japanese-Western style with a bed. It was close to the tourist spots in Miyajima, and the guided tours in the evening and morning were amazing. At night, there was an old lady who spoke like a rakugo performer. In the morning, there was a young man who sounded like a government employee. These two guides were the best. The food was delicious in the evening and morning, and the elderly Nakai who served us spoke in a wonderful Hiroshima dialect. It was a perfect stop, but I don't remember anything about the bath. Maybe it was just too ordinary? Either way, it was an inn I would like to return to.
