A great stay in a small and friendly more traditional style hostel which has everything you need and is very clean and comfortable and good value. The staff are fantastic, so friendly and helpful and really make you feel welcome - they were very knowledgable about the local area. Full English breakfast freshly cooked to order was very good. Great location for lovely walks straight from the hostel door. Hathersage has plenty of places to eat and basic shops, plus 3 churches and a lovely outdoor swimming pool and cutlery factory! It is easily accessible by train and also has reasonable bus links.

This was my first visit to YHA Hathersage, although I have frequented many other hostels in the past and it lived up to the standard I expect from the YHA and their staff. A small hostel on the edge of the village it is ideally placed for the local amenities all the Peak District National Park with all that has to offer. The accommodation is good and well cared for and as well as providing breakfast if required there is a fully supplied self catering kitchen. I would fully recommend staying there and I will certainly be returning sometime soon.

Stacy and her colleagues worked around the clock to help out, offer advice, cook, clean and keep the hostel running smoothly. The village shops and cafes are really close and the railway station means you can quickly get to neighbouring villages up and down the Hope Valley, and on to Sheffield or Manchester

I was visiting with 3 friends to walk in the Peaks. The hostel was great - very clean and comfortable, and the manager Stacey took so much trouble to give us a good welcome, answer all our questions and make our stay enjoyable. I will be back. Charles Elstub

Hathersage is a lovely place surrounded by glorious walking countryside - and the YHA is a perfect place to stay for small groups - or in my case - as an individual, with a private room. Admittedly my private room had 3 bunk beds, which felt a bit strange, but did give me plenty of room to spread my stuff out. I also had my own washbasin and there were loos and (excellent) showers down the corridor. Only drawback was getting woken in the night by the train going past! YHA staff were lovely and cooked a great full English, actually too much for me so I opted for the continental version which was more than adequate for a days walking. There is a spacious member’s kitchen although I only used it to boil a kettle, plus a comfy lounge. There is also a capacious drying room which came in very handy - something you often miss in the smarter hotels & B&Bs. Hathersage has excellent pubs and also several outdoor shops so everything you need to enjoy the glorious countryside.

Warm welcome, nice room, comfy bed, clean everywhere. And super convenient for accessing the hills of the Peak District nearby. This was a perfect little launch pad tucked away at the edge of Hathersage within a minute's walk of the various shops, tea shops and pubs in the village/town centre.

It’s fine but could be a lot better. Staff are friendly, everything works but it is in need of refurbishment. A good example is that almost all windows are painted shut, and ventilation in the kitchen and lounge is not sufficient. I don’t know how the YHA prioritises refurbishment but I hope this is a hostel near the top of the list :-) The hostel is well located but you do get some road and train noise. One gripe is the green LEDs in the bedroom emergency lights - they mean the bedroom is never dark but instead there is a strong glow all night. It’s really annoying! No doubt it is a H&S requirement but does it have to be *so* bright?

A lovely smaller hostel. All the team were very friendly and helpful, answering all of our queries and providing much info. The kitchen is well equipped however we would have appreciated the provision of basic foodstuffs (e.g. oil) although we realised there may be H&S issues. The room smelt slightly musty as did the showers although both were very clean and are again well-equipped. The showers were very powerful (1 was perfect but the other's temperature dial seemed a little temperamental). Minor work had to be undertaken in our room during our stay but the staff were very accommodating of our schedule and so this did not disrupt our stay in any way. A great classic or continental breakfast is available and can be booked in advance or by 9pm the night before. The hotel is in a superb location; a 10 min walk from the station and 2 mins to the main bus stop; and 5 mins to a small shop which stocks all necessary food items.

I stayed with my three children at the end of a four night walking trip where we back pack from one place to another. The welcome was very friendly and the staff were very good with the children. The breakfast was good and the hostel is close to the centre of the village with all amenities on hand.
