La Montagne Guest Lodge

"We had an exceptional stay at La Montagne Guest House! Our room was spacious and comfortably equipped, boasting an impressively large bathroom. The breathtaking view of Hartbeespoort Dam was a highlight, complemented by the beautifully maintained gardens. The staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The on-site restaurant served well-prepared and tasty dishes. A standout favourite was the thin-based pizza, offering a variety of delicious toppings. We highly recommend La Montagne Guest House.

This establishment may have been rated a 4-star *decades* ago but there's absolutely nothing 4-star about it now. I booked the family unit with my kids for 5 nights but ended up checking out earlier. From the facility - (we used up a can of Morten by the 2nd night but we could not enjoy a full night's sleep without cockroaches and wasps flying all over at night; and millipedes crawling all around, the shower handle of one bathroom broke on our 2nd day and it was never fixed till we checked out, the water was shut off and we all had to use one bathroom, the 2nd bathroom was all stuffy and moldy from the moment we checked in till we left) to the menu - (you get one tiny shot of juice for breakfast. Any extra request for juice costs R18, request for water also comes with a price and the breakfast menu is very much restricted). The service was nothing to write home about either. On the 2nd day, we were seeing pieces of pretzels and cookies from under the bed, possibly left behind by previous guests. I requested to speak to Kim the manager but that never happened and I had to leave. For a 4-star rated lodge, there was no Wi-Fi. Don't get me started on the road but I wouldn't blame the lodge for the road as they have no control over that but every other thing is within their control and it's definitely NOT a 4-star experience. It was a disappointing experience for my kids and I as we had expectations from the pictures and the reviews we saw online. We got little to no value for what we paid.

What a peaceful and wonderful place to stay for the weekend. A great getaway for our anniversary. Provides a lot of privacy and tranquility. The views were breathtaking! The unit where we stayed was the Double room with a mountain view. Its properly spaced for a bedroom with a bathroom. Has its own patio and small garden thats very private. Every morning there is cleaning service. The restaurant serves some great food as well. Its never too congested. The servers are on point there. They will go out of their way to provide an awesome service. The free breakfasts that they include is a good portion The only negatives I experience I can name is that our patio's view of the dam was a bit obscured by small tree branches. The juice that came with the free breakfast was on the small side. And the road to the lodge is quite a terrible state. If they can arrange with the estate to scrape the road it would be great.

We really enjoyed the spa treatments that we had and enjoyed the pool, meals we had and the jacuzzi. The room was got was a bit of a let down for the price though including having a faulty shower.

What a treat. It was the most romantic getaway birthday/anniversary gift. The staff were friendly and tended to our every need. The landscape is beautiful and the view from the cabin is breathtaking. My husband and I got the relaxing weekend we needed.
