Absolutely Appalling – Not Worth the Price or the Stars This was supposed to be a much-needed overnight break for my partner and me—a chance to escape the daily grind of work and parenting and enjoy some relaxation. Unfortunately, we left wishing we had just stayed home. This was, without a doubt, the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. From the moment we stepped into our room, we were hit by an awful, musty smell—likely due to damp. The room itself was in a terrible state: wallpaper peeling off the walls, a broken door blind, and a kettle that didn’t even work. When I raised concerns about the unpleasant smell, all we were offered was a spray bottle of fabric freshener—which, unsurprisingly, did nothing. The room looked nothing like the photos online, and when we brought this up with staff, we were told it "hadn’t been redecorated yet." For the price we paid, this was absolutely unacceptable. The entire property, though part of an old estate, is completely dated and in serious need of refurbishment. Facilities were no better. The pools were tired and clearly in need of updating. We waited over 30 minutes for two cocktails at the bar, which turned out to be massively overpriced and underwhelming. The so-called two-rosette restaurant was another major letdown—the dinner was genuinely awful. Breakfast was mediocre at best, and they couldn’t even manage a basic eggs Florentine. Lunch by the pool took 45 minutes to arrive, and it was just a burger and chips. We had hoped to enjoy a relaxing evening on the terrace after dinner, but because we waited over an hour for our main course, it was already dark by the time we finished. To make things worse, the terrace had no outdoor lighting—pitch black—so we couldn't even see each other, let alone enjoy a drink or play a game of cards outside. Instead, we ended up going back to our room—only to be met again with that same awful, lingering smell and to a broken kettle. We raised our concerns during our stay and again at check-out, only to be met with a half-hearted “thank you for your feedback.” There was no real apology, no sense of accountability, and certainly no effort to make amends for ruining what was supposed to be our first proper weekend away in months. What should have been a relaxing break turned into a frustrating waste of time and money. Overall, the experience was incredibly disappointing. This hotel claims to be 4-star, but in reality, it barely lives up to a 3-star standard. Do yourself a favor—spend your money elsewhere.

I liked the how elegant the art decor and furniture is in the building . I also liked the food , it was tasty. What I didn’t like was some of the service I received and the fact there were cobwebs on the ceiling of my bedroom. In regards to the service some of it was poor. I had the receptionist tell me that we could order drinks but the pool , but found out when I hit there that we had to go to the bar to order them. They didn’t help me with my luggage on arrival when I was getting out of the taxi and I had someone say they’ll get there colleague to get me an expresso , but waited 20 minutes and he as to chase them for it and after I asked another member of staff for the expressso I had to wait 12 minutes for it and it was dead so that was very disappointing. They gave to me on the house which was good though to apologise. I ordered room service and one of my requests was a glass of champagne and they gave me rosé champagne instead. The meal in the oak room restaurant was delicious and I had very good service. Breakfast was very tasty too and the service was excellent. Overall I’m pleased I went , but there were many let downs unfortunately. Hopefully they will read this and work on improving their service skills and cleaning routines. The staff were very polite though.

We had a lovely time, the hotel is beautiful and so are the grounds. BUT I'm allergic to dairy and , having told the staff that, I'm afraid I've definitely eaten dairy as I've been very ill today. I've never left a review before and I don't really know why I'm doing it now, beyond saying please make absolute sure things don't have dairy in before you serve them, as people can get very sick!

Fantastic for a short stay We had a fantastic Stay, the spa and rooms were good - but the real cherry on top were the grounds. We were lucky to have some early Spring Sunshine and to be honest the grounds and hotel looked amazing. Staff were incredible and very attentive.

What a nice place to stay. A nice stay on our way back from Portsmouth to Lincoln. We arrived at 10.30 pm and made very welcome, we ordered a sandwitch in the bar which was no trouble. The room was fine . Good access to the motorways and plenty of safe parking if you have a nice car. Take an hour to discovery the vast grounds of the hall before you leave. We will stay here again.
