Hotels Near Elegant Era Vintage Boutique in Harrogate

We had been looking forward to staying in an up-market four-star hotel in up-market Harrogate; we were sorely disappointed. Things started to go wrong before we checked-in; we enquired about secure parking; we were told that the secure parking was directly in front of the hotel, not our idea of secure. We were, somewhat curtly, informed that it was full and that we would have to park on the street. No mention was made of use of the off-street parking availability at the sister hotel a few hundred meters down the hill, which we later understood could be used at the residents’ rate (£15 per night). We checked in to our “Deluxe Double Room”, our idea of “deluxe” is at complete variance to what we found; there was absolutely nothing deluxe about the room. The heating was off and the room cold. It was sp****ly furnished with, furniture that at best was Ikea, but more likely MFI. The windows were ill-fitting and had large gaps at the sides and bottom, allowing cold air in. The bathroom was sp****ly equipped with taps that are more style than functionality, it was impossible to turn the shower tap off with wet hands. The toilet seat was loose. The towel rail barely took the chill off the room. The room was not serviced on day two, for no apparent reason. We were later informed that the room was deluxe as it has a view to the front. The breakfast facilities are grossly inadequate, such that guests are required to request an allocated time. The self-service area is cramped and congested. There was only one toasting machine that required the bread to be put in twice to achieve acceptable results, increasing the congestion. We were allocated a slot towards the end of the breakfast period, some of the cooked food was not available and we were told that because it was the end of breakfast, no more would be cooked. Very far divorced from four-star service. To my mind, an English breakfast requires marmalade, the little pots of orange coloured jelly are what I might expect in a cheap boarding-house, not a four-star hotel. This hotel is one to avoid, it lets Harrogate and Yorkshire down in a big way. p.s I sent a copy of this to the duty managers for their comment before I posted it; they did not bother to reply.

The room and hotel were emaculataly clean, the bedroom was comfortable but basic with tea coffee soap shower foam and towels. No biscuits or hairdryer, but my wife always takes her own. The staff are super friendly and pleasant, especially Beth, who served our evening meal on both evenings, regrettably the cooked breakfast was bland but was complimented by all of the other delights on offer from cereal, fruit, fruit salad pastries, pancakes, porridge, croissants and yoghurts etc. It is ideally located for the Harrogate Centre and Harewood House and the Emmerdale experience . Attached to the hotel is a local authority run multistorey car park, although there is no direct access from the hotel to the car park hotel guests do have a separate door to the garage. Bluebadge holders park for free. I will definitely making a return trip to Harrogate.

Greeted with a friendly face and directed to reception. It’s a massive hotel old but clean and interesting. Our room 333 over looking the back of the hotel green lawn. The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the tea making facilities, which were polostrine cups like takeaway ones. Maybe from Covid, and the tea milk and sugar in a tied up bag, no tray. But later on we ordered sandwiches from the bar and he said that he could get them to our room if we wanted to rather than wait in the bar for them. That’s when I asked for a real cup and he said that he would send two up with our sandwiches. Nothing is to much trouble, I would and will be staying here again.

Beautiful, comfortable and beautiful. Across the road is a huge lawn! The room was a bit small but reasonably clean. The surrounding environment is great. The English breakfast was also delicious, I ate it for 5 days in a row. The dinner is also good, the waiters are nice, Service is nice. Many elderly people come here. The water quality is a few blocks behind London.

The market town Knaresborough looked an ideal stopping point en route to London by car, just off the A1 and with stunning views from the castle which was a stronghold of medieval kings, across the River Nidd and viaduct. It's also near Mother Shipton's Cave, named after England's most famous Prophetess who lived some 500 years ago during the reign of King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. The cave is her legendary birthplace and near to a geological phenomenon, the Petrifying Well, England's oldest visitor attraction. Sadly, the weather closed in and driving down the rain-soaked A1, allied to an extensive delay because of traffic through Newcastle, meant it was closed when we got there. We had a walk but a chill wind forced us back to the Orchard Club Hotel situated near the centre of town. It's on the main road and easy to spot but finding the car park up a tight alleyway was a pain. We got there in the end. It is Grade II listed and was formerly the Newton House Hotel. Each room is named and styled with a particular fruit as its inspiration. Ours was comfortable if a tad old fashioned for our taste. It had everything you needed and we slept well despite our room overlooking a busy main road rear traffic lights. The breakfast choice was extensive and other guests were using it as a convenient location for touring to places like Fountains Abbey, the largest monastic ruins in the country, York and, of course, Mother Shipton's Cave.

We stayed here for 2 nights recently, as we were attending Ripon Races. We were 2 couples - 1 of whom stayed in 1 of the garden lodges and 1 of whom stayed in 1 of the classic doubles. The garden lodge room was a lovely size, opening out onto a verandah within the garden/grounds, a very peaceful location. It was a lovely and comfortable room. The classic double room, whilst smaller, was well-appointed and had everything we needed. The breakfast had plenty of choice and was really tasty. The staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful, a credit to the hotel. Onsite parking was free of charge for guests. Next time we're coming for Ripon Races we will definitely stay here, it was a lovely hotel and we're very glad we booked to stay here!

Only spent one night here and next time it'll be for longer. Our bedroom was spotless and generous in size ( as was the bathroom) and the bed was super. Tv and coffee making facilities. The bar/dining areas are spacious and comfortable. We stayed in for dinner and I had the half Chicken on harissa spices but tbh it was a bit bland...if it's listed as harissa then give it a good coating..that being said it was cooked well. My wife had the salmon and that was fine. Breakfast was buffet style and had everything you need to start your day. There is also on site parking. It's only a few minutes stroll into town. And finally, all staff were really nice. No hesitation in recommending.

Huge hotel. Grounds very nice. Leisure facilities are brilliant.
