One every 3 months I walk along the canal and I always drop for a coffee and bacon roll. Both of these are possibly the best I’ve ever had (although there are other great coffee houses out there) but the bacon roll is awesome. Highly recommended to just sit by the canal and watch the world, and some narrow boats, go by.

I agree with the previous reviewer. This is a cafe - and all the reviews are for a cafe. Online there is a "retreat centre" behind the cafe that is for hire. I have tried to get the category changed but my request was rejected. Anyway, the cafe is rather good. The cake is expensive but the slices are huge and the quality excellent. An unusual location - you can only get here by walking some distance along the towpath. You can park (for a fee) in the Coy Carp car park - about a 10 minute walk away. The cafe is only open at weekends. The cafe itself is rustic. The seating is outside. There is a toiet - and the cafe has an alcohol licence. A very nice thing to do on a Sunday afternoon - especially if it is a (rare) sunny one.

Discovered Black Jack's while walking along the canal and stopped for a coffee. What a gorgeous place to stop and enjoy the view of the canal lock and very good coffee too. Since our discovery we have been back a couple of times for coffee and homemade cake and also for a light lunch. Food is pleasant, rather than spectacular and served nicely by the staff. This is not a fast food restaurant and service on busy days may not be the quickest but this is fully acceptable given the nature of the venue. Catering is largely home cooked food which means that the staff know exactly what ingredients are in their meals and cakes, which is a massive bonus for those with food allergies. Prices are very reasonable. Black Jack's is dog friendly and ideal for walkers like us and the canal users. I am not sure if their is any indoor seating but there is adequate outdoor tables, chairs and settees, some under cover. I believe that there may be rooms available for overnight stays but would advise anyone interested to check with the venue. We have greatly enjoyed our visits here and will certainly be back.

We seem to have a category error here since everyone's writing about the cafe rather than some hotel of the same name (might be close by). So, on London Loop section 12 this is around 90 minutes out of Uxbridge. As such it's in exactly the right place and the setting is perfect - it's an old lock-keeper's cottage. Coffee and cake was just the right thing at that stage.

I have stopped off for a coffee & bacon roll on a regular basis while cycling along the canal, superb location, friendly staff, great service & always someone to chat to or watch the boats go through the lock.

We visit the Cafe regularly. The location by the lock is great. Chance to chat with boat owners. The other customers out on the veranda are always charming. The staff are very friendly. The food and drink served is always fine. Usually walk from the lock near the Coy Carpe. Alan Roberts

We have visited the cafe regularly as we are local .There is a very small area inside to order teas and coffee etc but no seating . There was a family standing there drinking coffees and eating cakes so we were told to wait outside in the cold. We tried again after about another 10 minutes and were told to wait out side once again . I think it's a very strange way to run a business and unfortataly won't be returning again .

As Harefield residents we have visited Black Jacks previously on our many walks in the area. During the lockdown we bought a food hamper from them, although it was over priced and not exceptional quality we wanted to support this local business. We were very disappointed today to be told we would be charged for an additional two slices of bread from a baguette to finish off our shared cheese platter. What short sighted business model - had we been given the bread we would have ordered two more beers - which at £4 per small bottle is not inexpensive with probably a good mark up. Moreover, the toilet had not been inspected at all that day; there’s no hot water, no hand towels and toilet rolls were unhygienically strewn across the floor, the sink needed cleaning of tens of dead midges. I fear standards have dropped at what was a much loved venue. We won’t be visiting again soon and will advise other residents to give it a miss until it improves. Such a shame. 9
