Cactus Homestay

It's okay. The advantage is that it's very close to the old town, and it's convenient to eat, drink and have fun nearby. The disadvantage is that I couldn't find the boss and staff when I first arrived. I was confused, but finally I checked in with the help of a foreigner.

We initially booked this homestay through Booking for 4 nights, it was available and confirmed but after a while they wrote to us saying that they didn't have one of the nights available and if we could take another one and then move to this one and that they would give us a friendly price. Ok, ok, we told them that we would take another accommodation for the first night and the next day we would go in the morning at least to leave the suitcase. When we got to the place we found two gates closed tight, there seemed to be nothing there, I wrote to her and she tells me that her aunt is on her way and that she is going to fix a tap (she had also told me that if the room was free before check in she would let me know, which she didn't do) her aunt comes who doesn't speak any English and simply gives us the key. (here about half an hour has passed from the first message until we have the key, we wanted to go on a scheduled visit that obviously we didn't make it to) We see that they have put some duct tape on the tap but it leaks water and the bathroom is flooded, I told him (all by WhatsApp) he tells me that they will fix it in the afternoon or the next day. Shortly after being in the room, there is a knock on the door and I see a boy who I supposed was the one I was talking to (it wasn't). The first and only thing he tells us is that we pay for the accommodation. We were surprised since we have always paid at check out, and coincidentally we did not have enough money since the ATM we found on the way did not work and no one takes payments by card. I tell him that we only have 500k, that we have to go to the ATM. He tells me that he will come back at 5 pm that I pay him there. Obviously I tell him that I don't know if we will be there since if we are on the other side of the city I am not going to come on purpose (besides, we were staying 4 days 3 nights, there would be many moments to make the payment). Finally we agree that we will write to him when we return and he comes to collect (because it seems that there is no one there in general) and in this he asks me for my passports, I assumed that he asked me for them, just like in the 100% of the previous accommodations, to check in and that he would return them to me immediately. He goes downstairs, we stay with the door of the room open waiting for him to bring them and he does not return, we go down and there is no one there and the entrance door was locked with a key and padlock, it did not seem that anyone was going to return. So I write to the initial person to tell him if I had finished with the passports so we could leave, and here comes the most surreal thing yet, he asks me if he can return them to me when we pay, How? They just kidnapped my passport? The most important thing for a traveler? Well that's how it is, after a few minutes of assimilating what was happening I tell him that ok, that we will look for an ATM but that I do not intend to go around undocumented, I find the move mind-blowing. Then he tells me that if the situation makes me uncomfortable he will ask his brother if he can bring them to me, of course it makes me uncomfortable that you keep my passport unilaterally, plus I give him a chance to return them to me.
