Tupa Hotel

Nice stay in tupa hotel, providing with satisfied environment to stay.

Quite disappointed to stay there with food, breakfast and facility.

Visited Rapa Nui with my family (2 adults, 2 kids) for our 15th wedding anniversary. An otherwise excellent Polynesian bucket list experience was greatly diminished due to this hotel. The room was dirty, shabby and the provided towels had stains. When we entered initially, there was a strong musty smell as if the room hadnt been opened in weeks! The room did not have airconditioning which we did not know beforehand but thats more the travel agent's fault for not letting us know, than the hotel's. Moldy bathrooms with cobwebs - uggh! The room provides a standing fan which was extremely dusty and old. The bathroom sink was clogged / drained extremely slowly. The room wardrobe door hinges came off. When we requested a change of towels on the next day since we had flown from atacama to santiago to easter island, staff was adamant they wouldnt change towels before 3 days and instead berated me for leaving the used towels on the floor - thats something which is the norm in most places but with the arrogant staff here, it is 'my way' or the highway. the reception staff claimed the towel policy is on their list of dos and donts and pointed to a paper at their reception desk - but this was never communicated to us when we arrived. They claim the towel policy is for environmental sustainability but thats a suspect claim given their widespread use of single use plastics. They have a decent breakfast though and I did not notice bugs/cockroaches in the room so thats a plus. however, the facilities do not merit $220+/night. Attached are a few pics though I could have taken several more - I had just mentally checked out. you are forewarned - you will be getting B grade motel facilities at 3-star hotel pricing.

The rooms are very dated but comfortable. The bathrooms however leave a lot to be desired and fairly poorly maintained and the towels are not good either. It is rated as a 3 star hotel on google maps but at best it is a 2 star hotel. More than likely it is a 1 star hotel only. It is centrally located though and they picked us up and dropped off efficiently. The staff at the small reception was exceptionally good. We booked a Rupa Nui express tour through the hotel. The Hotel tour agent Fernanada was always very responsive to any questions. The English guide they assigned to me was terrible. His name was Roberto. I do not expect fluent English from anyone whose native language is not English as I myself speak 5 languages. But Roberto's was terrible English. I could not make head or tail of what he was saying. Apart from that he was not cordial and his knowledge was very poor. It appeared that it might have been his first stint as a guide. However he did fit one part well. All the national parks have to have a official guide to enter. He fits that part well. Most of the other historical data I easily obtained from the Wikipedia and other internet knowledge bases
