The small, charming shopping street is teeming with people and bikes. No wonder! The one-way street is lined with lovely restaurants (one pub across the street even offered live music in the evenings) and shops. When we arrived around 4 p.m., we parked briefly next to the sidewalk, as there were no parking spaces on the street. The hotel entrance was locked, and there was a sign on the door asking us to call a mobile number. But we were lucky; someone saw us and came out of the back of the hotel to open the door for us. The very nice, young employee took me to the reception desk and checked our reservations. We were given a parking permit for the Hilton Hotel's underground garage, 10 minutes away, and we were able to unload our luggage. Parking for two nights costs €40. The hotel, which is unmanned in the afternoons and evenings, is accessed with a chip that you hold next to the entrance door. We had booked two suites. The Garden Suite was directly on the ground floor behind reception, with a small terrace in the back courtyard adjacent to the Irish pub, and a very nice, newly renovated bathroom (the room with the colorful pillows). The large room was very nicely furnished. I like the style, but you couldn't watch TV from the bed or the sofa. It didn't bother us, as we had plenty to do, like shopping, renting bikes (at a small café with books on the same street), visiting the art museum, sightseeing, and eating and drinking. The second room, No. 4, was also large and on the first floor, facing the street. In the evenings, you could hear the loud shouting from the Irish pub next door until late into the night. One evening, the police were even standing outside when we returned to the hotel after dinner. The room on the first floor had a warmer atmosphere than the Garden Suite on the ground floor, with large windows facing the street and a very comfortable, wide bed. Here you could watch TV from the sofa. The bathroom door always creaked loudly when entering and leaving. The bathroom had a brand new bathtub, but the floor and skirting boards, as well as the shower, were a bit worn, but clean. Upon closer inspection, you can see that some of the repairs had been done. This isn't a new building. The staircase to the first floor isn't suitable for older people; the steps are dangerously narrow and steep, and have been ugly painted white and patched up. In the morning, we were able to have breakfast in the beautiful, historic, cozy front part of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was far away in a horrible, modern-style side room with closely spaced tables for two, which was very uncomfortable. If you weren't up early enough, you had to have breakfast there. It would be better to adapt that part to match the older part, as it would be a terrible breach of style. At breakfast, you were also asked if you wanted freshly made eggs or pancakes. Overall, we felt very comfortable there, and the location is simply fabulous.
