Guimaraes Hotels with Wi-Fi

Garage was under water. I wrote that I needed a place. There was no communication: I don't like bad surprises. At check-in, three people in front of me and it took an extremely long time because there was only one person at reception. No coffee in the room just tea. Breakfast room very cold. P/L excellent. Very nice, friendly staff, close to the center.

The Hotel Fundador was closed, we were hosted at the hotel next door, Hotel de Guimarães, which still belonged to the management. Both hotels are located next to the train station. Pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.

The most helpful staff we’ve ever encountered, nothing was too much trouble . Breakfast was a real joy, no buffet to manoeuvre just sit and have excellent service and a very good breakfast. The only problem we had was finding the entrance , it was raining so it made it a little more difficult , an extra bit of signage would do wonders . All in all a superb stay . Well done staff .

The location is OK about 15 minutes walking from the city center. The building from the outside is a bit old and not very nice but inside is comfortable. The room was nice, spacious, clean and quiet (with a orrible view) and the beds were a little tight and uncomfortable. Breakfast and dinner buffet are adequate and covers most requirements but they offer nothing exciting and they were identical every day. Dtaff is friendly and helpfiul.

This s a long overdue but heartfelt review of a place of character and grace. The staff could not have been more accommodating: We had difficulty finding our way because the GPS on our rented motorcycle failed us. I can't be sure if it was Yolanda and Rita (and a gentleman whose name I don't remember) who met us in town and accompanied us to the hotel, but we were grateful and touched by how everyone extended themselves. Our downstairs living quarters overlooked a sweet square, breakfast was delicious, and right next door is an adorable cafe with a charming proprietress. Guimaraes is a worthy stop and Casa do Juncal is very special!

We were there around end of December, 2022. The owners started this business 6 months before our stay. They are so nice to accommodate all our requests, like gave us a microwave oven while our stay, so we could have take out food. The breakfast had eggs, cheese, yogurt, cold cuts and great coffee. Good food, service, and clean. 3 things to notice: —It’s not 24 hours hotel, so be sure your get code from order website to get in, and remember the owner phone number. The owner showed up in several minutes. —It’s 7 -10 walking minutes from train station with slopes . Not difficult for us, but if your physical ability do not allow, call Uber around 4-6 euros. —There is no elevator , only stairs to 2nd floor. Ask for downstairs if you can’t handle luggage. There is only one room downstairs, with a small yard. It’s an extension attachment, so we heard the rain dancing on top, or imagine it was a symphony, it didn’t bother us. The owners knew it, we suggested build a V roof , instead of the current flat one. The environment is so convenient, 2 grocery stores almost next door, bus stops in front , many restaurants. 15 minutes walk to castle/palace, a must go. We like the place very much, a good offer for the money.

Ibis Guimaraes Centro Guimaraes Second time, and last time...... While in Guimarães we realised why we had such a problem finding a hotel in the area we wanted to be in, as there was the CONTEXTILE 2022 - Contemporary Textile Art Biennial 03.09. – 30.10.2022. The town was absolutely heaving the weekend we were there. It is over twenty years since we stayed in an IBIS hotel, and that was in the UK. We thought we would give this a try as we had no luck getting in anywhere else even though we looked early enough in the year for a place. We booked months ago. We had just arrived back from a break in Porto and the Açores. So this is our second stay in an Ibis hotel, and definitely our last! After checking in the previous evening, we went to the bar and asked for a beer and a glass of white wine. The chap on reception said we could only have a white wine if we bought the bottle, so we declined that offer as my husband only drinks red wine or beer. Later in the evening we arrived back and a young woman was on reception/bar duty. So I asked if I could have a glass of red wine? She told me I would have to buy a bottle of red! I asked her if they did anything by the glass? Yes, was her reply, I could buy a glass of white wine, which I did, and my husband had a beer. I don't know why the receptionist /barman told us why we would have to buy white wine when we were basically in Vinho Verde region where it is abundant! The room itself was clean and tidy, but in a time warp of the nineteen seventies with it's Neopolitan decor. Bed is comfy enough. The power block and the aircon were the only bonuses I can think of. Only a bath towel each, no hand towels, we really do like a hand towel after washing our hands and faces, NOT ideal to use a bath towel for this! The receptionist who worked mornings was very helpful and pleasant. As for breakfast, which was adequate, the fact that two people sat at a table for four, every morning while we were there, and put their bags and scarves on the chairs beside them is really annoying. Trying to get a table at your allotted time is bad enough, getting a table with two chairs was almost impossible at times. I asked for a chair, and the elderly woman looked at me with steely eyes because I was expecting her to put her bag and scarf on her knee, or at worst, the floor! How inconsiderate am I? I felt sorry for the lady who was in charge of making sure everything was there for breakfast, she was on her own and very busy. So many people just left their dirty trays on the tables and walked away knowing that other people would be turning up for breakfast. We all like to sit down to a clean table, but if other guests are too lazy to move their dirty trays, then there isn't a lot you can do about improving their manners.
