I recently stayed at the Universal International Hotel in Guilin, located next to the Li River and close to the Elephant Trunk scenic spot. I booked through Trip.com, but the check-in experience was disappointing as I had to wait an hour for my room to be ready. Fortunately, the staff were kind enough to upgrade my room due to the delay. The new room was much bigger and included a living room. Although the room was clean, the decoration felt outdated. I encountered issues with the toilet, which maintenance promptly fixed, but the bathroom drain emitted a terrible smell, necessitating that I keep the bathroom door closed. On the last evening, I was disturbed by a cockroach running around the floor.
The hotel’s breakfast was quite poor, with a very limited selection. The so-called “international” options were almost nonexistent, consisting only of toast and coffee. I stayed for three nights but only ate breakfast once due to its subpar quality. However, the location of the hotel was excellent, being very close to all the scenic spots. Despite the responsive customer service in handling room issues, my overall experience at the hotel was very low, and I did not enjoy my stay. Given these issues, I would not recommend this hotel to others.
