You can walk to the famous cathedral and it is easy to explore the old town.
However, it is written in the guidebooks that the old town is unsafe, so I think you need to be careful when staying there.
I stayed alone as a woman, but everyone at the nearby shops and the Uber driver when I went to the hotel were kind and didn't make me feel in danger.
It depends on how you perceive it, but I feel safe because my family is always around the front desk. However, there may be times when you find the laughter or TV volume too loud.
