Is Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou letting the brand's reputation down? I arrived to check in at 4 PM, only to be told I'd have to wait another hour for a room! The front desk area was packed with people, and they just told me to find a seat myself?! During check-in, absolutely no information was provided, not even about restaurant hours or breakfast times! The front desk staff all seemed incredibly busy – so busy that no one even bothered to acknowledge me!
To be fair, the room decor and physical amenities were indeed in the Mandarin Oriental style.
However, the welcome fruit was rather meager, and the breakfast spread was just average. The only upside was that breakfast was available until 11:30 AM.
Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou – purely based on the service and check-in experience, I will definitely not be returning!

The facilities at Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou are, as always, impeccably maintained. Every detail in the room is thoughtfully executed. The slippers remain as comfortable as ever. They've switched to Typology amenities, which personally I don't find as good as the previous Atelier Cologne. Breakfast was also excellent.

This Guangzhou trip turned out to be quite an ordeal. My flight here was delayed by 9 hours due to a typhoon in Shanghai, and then my return flight was cancelled. Thankfully, the Mandarin Oriental's superb quality and service really helped alleviate my immense frustration. Needless to say, the hotel's location is perfect, right at Taikoo Hui with direct access to Metro Line 3, making it incredibly convenient. My daughter absolutely loved swimming in the pool. I would definitely choose the Mandarin Oriental again if I have the opportunity to return.
