Lovely old hotel. The rooms have old world charm and decor. Nice linens and comfortable beds. Well appointed bathrooms with everything you could imagine you'll need, including Ferragamo toiletries, razors, robes and slippers, etc. I was most impressed with the hotel staff. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I received special care from Jaimie the concierge and Nancy at the front desk. The location is far away from the attractions and there is not much in walking distance, so prepare to taxi it. Taxis are very reasonable so it's not an issue. The hotel restaurant food was good with a decedent selection of items. Be aware that English is not widely spoken by everyone, so you might have to wait for someone to assist if you have questions. On a side note, I found that English is not as widespread in Guadalajara as in most places I've been in Mexico. It's probably because it's not exactly a popular tourist destination so there's little need to have it. On the plus side this means Guadalajara has held onto the culture very well. No pandering to foreigners. Back to the restaurant, my one complaint was a waiter there on 2 nights was sick. I was very uncomfortable having him serve me. I regret not mentioning it to management. He should not have been permitted to work until he was well. I asked him to keep his distance from me and I didn't use the pen he gave me to sign the check. He seem to take it well but it never should have happened. i did find that a lot of people are wearing masks in general there. Not the hotel staff but local people. It was good to see. The hotel grounds are lovely, the pool was in the shade most of the time and I think the lounge chair area needs more attention. The cushions had bird poop all over them and were very dirty. There are a lot of pigeons on the property too. I think it's tough to keep birds away but I did witness them eating from the breakfast buffet table. Maybe a special person should be present to shoo them away? I didn't see the gym but I'm told they do have one . All in all it was a good stay there.

Very comfortable bed, pillows could be better, not so fluffy anymore. Rooms with two beds have bathtubs and it was perfect to relax after being at the Expo. Super hot water. Very extensive breakfast. There is everything. I loved it.

When you read their description of that's available and you think ”we should stay here!”, you might want to think twice. They say: Enjoy our 780 sq. ft. King Deluxe Suite with a separate living area and offers a parlor with spectacular city views. Starting your day off with continental breakfast and relax in the evening with hors d'oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages and honor bar. Includes a private bedroom with a separate shower and bathtub, queen-sized sofa bed, WiFi access, two-line phones with voicemail, nightly turndown service, wet bar. Each suite includes features from The Hilton Serenity Collection. The Serenity Bed includes an exclusive Suite Dreams mattress and box springs, Super Topper mattress pad, down duvet, Touch of Down pillows, linen program, as well as custom decorative bed throws and bolster pillow.” What we got: No mini bar (when we asked for it, they brought a refrigerator...with nothing in it.) No separate toilet and shower, it was all one room and was dirty. No lounge with hors d'oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages and honor bar. No continental breakfast And no one seemed to care. It was so sad.

I have stayed at this hotel several times for business travel. The rooms are nice and clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. I do have a few complaints though. Far too much room is taken up by the mini bar. Most of the refrigerator space, two full drawers, and a entire shelf are used by the mini bar. As a business travel, I never use any of the items and would much rather have the room to store my own items such as left overs. This is especially true with the refrigerator as there is barely room for me to put 4 bottles of water. (There is an oxxo and a 7-11 just a block away and I would much rather buy my water there as it is much cheaper.) On two of my trips there have been short power outages due to storms. (One night the power turned on and off almost a dozen times.) When the power goes out the room thermostat loses its memory and turns off the room fan. (Regardless of the temperature you set, if the fan is not on the room does not cool.) This led to the room getting very hot and me waking to turn the AC and Fan on again many times in the night. It would be great if they could change the bios settings on the thermostat so the fan defaults to On instead of off.

My wife and I were on business in Guadalajara and I try to stay at Marriott properties when I can. I have to say that this JW Marriott is one of the best that I have been to over the last 20 years of business travel. I have stayed at hundreds of hotels so I am a very picky traveler. The staff was warm and very responsive. The facility was clean and well maintained. The services were perfect for the location and the type of travel that I was doing. Overall, I would recommend this property to US business travelers looking for a high quality experience when in Guadalajara.
