I really can't say enough good things about our experience staying in Gruyeres as guests of Chantal and Stéphane. I wanted to leave a review for them as they really put so much into our stay. Important to remember that this is a guest house, not a hotel, so it takes a bit more proactive communication and understanding. But the upside is that its personal, flexible and intimate. I admit to feeling a bit overwhelmed going into it as my French isn't great and I was unsure with it being so remote, we took trains from Lyon and arrived fairly late the day, but after reaching out to Chantal via WhatsApp, we easily figured everything out and she was wonderful in getting us set up. After checking in we had a truly magical time in Gruyeres, with dinner looking out over the alps (eating incredible fondue) at sunset, drinks at the H.R. Geiger bar, and some of the best golden our pictures I've ever taken. The morning was fresh bread, cheese and coffee on the walls of a literal castle town. Everything was fresh and local, and absolutely warrants a return! As for the accommodations, the room was nicely sized with a newly remodeled bathroom. It featured a comfortable bed, a small fridge and lots of charm. Topping it all off, Stéphane gave us a ride to the train station all the way in Bulle - the Gruyeres station was having construction and he said it would be easier for us. Absolutely above and beyond. I highly recommend this for a unique stay - I will be looking to stay again with them soon.
