A crowd of us were staying in the village and visited on a couple of occasions for a drink. It’s warm and friendly and serves a nice pint. We didn’t eat but it was busy with customers eating so I guess the food must be good…the menu looked good. Well worth a visit if staying locally

What a great place to stay! Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Fantastic choice of real ales. Extensive menu and excellent food. Highly recommend the pies. There's also great access to nearby Ullswater. Would recommend a stay here while exploring the Lake District.

The service and the pizza was good but that's about it. Over cooked steak, average curry, tiny and bland lamb Henry (served with frozen veg and Yorkshire puddings). The pub was cold. When I raised the fact that I couldn't eat my rubbery steak, the waitress knocked a glass of wine off the bill. Won't be returning and do not recommend. Disappointed 😞

went with our ladies group. It is a while since we have been here. The pub was quiet . we all enjoyed our food as there is an extensive menu the cook did well to serve us all at the same time. The young girl serving us was excellant and very friendly.

Booked this place for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding arrived at 3.30 to a place that looked like it had shut down windows were dirty and there was weeds everywhere car park was uneven and also had weeds everywhere looked at where the yurts were and everything including plant pots were full of weeds I phoned the telephone number numerous times to get no answer my sister also phoned she got to leave a voicemail and left a message we realised we could not get into rooms till 5 but with it being a pub thought we could at least get into premises we had also sent 2 emails on the Sunday before our arrival and had no answer so we thought the place had shut down going by the neglected look of the place so we decided we would need to look for alternative accommodation as we had wedding to get ready for the next day sister got phone call at 10pm from them that night but as she was already in bed did not hear it when we got back from wedding that night she had received 2 emails from Strickland second one stating that if we had not paid the balance of £200 within 3 days they were taking it to the court my sister was very upset so we have paid it so in total we have paid them £400 for nothing think they need to look at there customer service as it is appalling the same as the outside of there pub WOULD AVOIDE THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAQUE

Beautiful peaceful accommodation. Perfect beds and lining. Warm showers and heating. Had a great night's sleep. Lovely couple running the pub and accommodation. Gorgeous breakfast included. Really interesting interior of the pub-lots of memorabilia and stories. Focus on sustainability and supporting the local community. Nice walks from the pub and lots to see nearby by car too. Can get Busy in the evenings so get booked and possibly order meals ahead.

Amazing welcoming staff and fantastic pies! We were a family with friends and 2 dogs and we were so well looked after, a real surprise after reading some not so kind reviews! The owner remembered us from the Friday and very kindly gave my son some free tokens for the games machine which kept him happy and begging to go back the pub (never a bad thing LOL)

Great room in the pub, fabulous staff, I had the best steak pie ever, and I’ve been a chef for 52 years. Service was superb, the owners could not have been more helpful, the breakfast was great which is unusual these days . We had just driven up from Cornwall for 9 hours with a very tired driver, wife and puppy but got delayed due to traffic etc, but got the best reception ever. We will be back.
