The Ghost Lodge

We saw the Lodge driving up to Karamea and, on a whim, booked it online to break the journey going back south. What a lucky find. We had the green room which isn't very large but has an en-suite. We kind of let ourselves in and out and never met Simon himself, but the two guys staying on the upper floor immediately pointed us towards the table up on the sea wall. We cooked some pasta for dinner and took it up there to eat during sunset - magical. The garden is beautiful, as is the room, everything very lovingly and tastefully decorated. Very chill atmosphere, very easy, wonderful stay, highly recommended.

The Ghost Lodge is a beautiful and comfortable stay. Simon is a very welcoming and laidback host who has a done a marvellous job renovating the building. Very handy to the beach. Great facilities - the option of having a soak in a hot tub is lovely. Superb kitchen. We will be back!

This place is a gem and well worth staying for some peace, quiet and relaxation. The host is one of the most interesting people you could find and sitting listening to how he has built this place by salvaging rimu and other pieces throughout Nz and then turning them into this mecca is stimulating. His taste is impeccable and sitting out at night having drinks on the deck watching the sunset is magical. A must for travellers whether you are a group or individual. Ross and Karen Harland

Simon our host was very helpful & informative. Ghost Lodge is a beautiful historical building lovingly restored. Comes with a very well equipped kitchen, (the best I’ve seen in all my travels). The Continental breakfast is a nice touch for the price. TV/Lounge areas and pool room Ideal for large groups. We thoroughly enjoyed the views sitting ocean side to watch the sunset and a late night sauna was the perfect way to end a great day. Awesome value for money… don’t forget you can book direct.
