I picked this hotel because of proximity to UND and because it has a full-service restaurant. I didn't want to have to get out in the evenings when the wind chills were in the -20s to -30s. The room was a nice size, and the bathroom was pretty modern, but beginning to show a few signs of signs of wear. The front desk staff was not overly friendly. The worst experience was ordering dinner. They have the option of room service or picking it up yourself. I went down and got it, which is fine. But it took several times of calling to get someone to answer the phone. The person who it answered, who it turns out was the only person down there (server/cook/bartender, etc), was surly and out of it. When I got down to pick up our order, it was clear this individual was not fully coherent. He was not friendly. I ordered a cocktail and it was the worst old fashioned I've ever had. As was the meager Caesar's salad I ordered. My companion had the grilled cheese and fries, which he said were mediocre. To top it all off we got all the way to the room and there was no silverware in the bag, and I had to go all the way back down. Check-in and check-out on the app were easy. I didn't believe the lower ratings of this place because Hilton Garden Inns are usually so nice, but this experience was less than satisfactory.

This is your typical Hilton Garden Inn. Clean rooms. Good services. Restaurant and bar. On the IND campus. Good location near I-29! I gave this a 4 based on the service. Upon arrival I had a card welcoming me as a Diamond Member. I received a call from the front desk asking how my room was. Great follow up. Thank you!

We overnighted here to attend a football game at the arena nearby. The room was OK, but the lobby area and staff made it a nice place to stay. Alexa, the desk clerk, was particularly nice and helpful. We were able to check in early. We did not spend much time here, but did sit at the bar and visited with some other guests that night while watching the end of a couple NCAA football games. The hallways and rooms need a bit more attention. They are not as nice as lobby area. The shower pan in our bathroom had black in the caulking around it and was really slippery!!!! Overall, our stay was fine, but like I said, the rooms seem to need some attention.

All good except a Hilton desk clerk released my cell phone number to someone without my permission. Unacceptable. There is no way they can justify this. Especially since the clerk called me on the room phone and told me they needed to update their record so please verify "your" phone number. Lied then violated my privacy.

On the good side, the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. I am a Diamond member with Hilton and have been for many years so I have a lot of experience with the Hilton properties. I typically don't do negative reviews but this stay needs to be reviewed. This is not a typical Hilton Garden Inn and I was very surprised by how bad the breakfast was. I had stayed in the Hampton Inn nearby in Grand Forks a few weeks earlier, and the free breakfast and the service at the Hampton was far superior to what is served at the Hilton Garden Inn. The cold breakfast was $9.95 and very limited. Instant oatmeal you made by adding hot water, a few cold cereals, some picked over fruit , yogurt, bread and a toaster. For $12.95 you could add in the scrambled eggs and meat from the steam trays. At most HGI's if you want a fried egg they will make you one as part of your order. I asked for two fried eggs and they were going to charge me for a $12 breakfast egg plate on top to the buffet. It was mostly self-serve, and they used cheap plastic silverware. The self-serve coffee was gone by 8:45 am, and when I asked for more they just brought me one cup. I asked why they didn't refill the thermos at the self-serve station and they said they weren't allowed to have coffee out after 9 am (or 8:45 in this case). never seen that before in a HGI. My only thought is that the food service at this property is managed by University of North Dakota catering, which might explain the low (or non-Hilton) standards. I hope that is the case. When you go to the desk have the hotel phone number handy, because the desk staff stays retreated somewhere in the back. If you call the hotel while you are standing there they'll come out to answer the phone. Finally (although this may not be unique to this property) is that even though my room was spacious there is no place to put your clothes if you unpack. The closet was about 18 inches wide so you could hang up a few things, there are no dresser type drawers, no drawers in the small nightstand, or in the bathroom. If I had been the for a week-long meeting I don't know what I would have done with all my things. I couldn't imagine furnishing my own bedroom this way and can't understand why anyone would think this would work for their guests. I would say the staff I interacted were generally nice and tried to be helpful. My guess is there is a severe management problem here. Now I see why the Hampton in Grand Forks is often sold out and there always seems to be rooms at this HGI.

I was on a solo road trip in May 2023 to meet up with a few friends in Grand Forks and had the opportunity to spend two nights (a Friday night and a Saturday night) at this Hilton Garden Inn. Overall, this is a pretty nice hotel. My check-in process went smoothly, my room (#336) was clean and comfortable, and I liked the amenities... including the bar, breakfast in the morning, and the indoor pool and hot tub (loved the hot tub). I enjoyed my stay for the most part, but the one thing that's disappointing is that there's no business center computers for guests to use. It's frustrating that Hilton properties are starting to phase those out, because it is a nice amenity for guests to have access to. This hotel would have been perfect if it hadn't gotten rid of its business center. But overall, I did have a pleasant stay.

We have been staying at this hotel since it opened. It is starting to show its age. They have two elevators but only one is in working order. It's a good location and we're a Hilton Honor's "Diamond" category so we try to stay in the Hilton family of hotels. I find it hard to believe there are that many Diamond members as all the Diamond parking spaces were filled. I suspect the parking isn't enforced much. The room is just ok. They retrofitted the bathroom door with a "barn" style sliding door. Very odd and not very practical. The kitchen staff like many places these days is understaffed. They had one person taking orders, serving, and operating the register. Thus, orders were slow and orders were wrong. Not her fault, she was trying her best. The coffee dispenser in the lobby was empty .... so I drove to a local convenience store for coffee. Take a look at all the taxes in Grand Forks -(Food/Beverage State tax, Food/Beverage City Tax, State Tax, City Tax, GF Lodging Tax, City Restaurant/Lodging Tax) Total taxes for a 2-day stay are about $42.

Our border crossing did not go as planned and since we were already exhausted, we stopped at Hilton just to rest and regroup. And while I 10 out of 10 would not recommend the Canadian Border Patrol Officers just north of here, I would recommend this amazing hotel if your trip does not go as planned.
