The location is beautiful, on a working coffee plantation, surrounded by misty volcanic peaks. Heritage plantation villas are spread throughout the resort, with views of the lush tropical greenery and mountains from the private verandah. Inside, the villas have comfortable beds, a seating and dining area, separate toilet, shower and bath area, tea and coffee making facilities, a stocked minibar, and air conditioning. The Club House serves as Reception and also has various seating areas for guest use, with board games and comfy sofas. The Plantation Lounge is the hotel bar, with an extensive cocktail menu and wine list, although prices reflect the high taxes on alcohol in Indonesia. We enjoyed a different cocktail each evening before dinner. My only criticism is the thumping music played on repeat. It really doesn't fit with the ambience; soft jazz would be far better. Java Red, the hotel restaurant, serves food all day at reasonable prices. The menu features some Western dishes, but I would highly recommend trying the Javanese options, which were universally delicious. The pool is lovely, and the spa features, unusually, proper Turkish hammams in both the male and female sections. We had a traditional Turkish bath and 90-minute Javanese massage, both of which were fabulous. The prices are reasonable by international hotel standards. The staff at MesaStila are simply phenomenal! They are genuinely friendly, making you feel truly welcome, and can't do enough. Don't hesitate to stay here if you find yourself in the area.
