GGuest User 2022.05.24
The placement of Scandic Rubinen is perfect whether you want to go to Liseberg or shopping. It's easily accessible by both car and public transport. The rooms seem quite fresh and nicely designed. However, the breakfast and cleanliness leave a lot to be desired. We found clothing from the last occupant in our room, and the breakfast is nowhere near what you would expect from an establishment such as this. Ovearll an okay hotel with a brilliant location.

We are a family run comfy small hotel with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Located in a classic 19th century building near the river and other attractions. We are conveniently located in the middle of Gothenburg and it´s close to everything. We have rooms for all occasions. A total of 55 rooms, from single, double or family rooms. Our rooms are of good standard and are different in shape, color, décor and size. All bathrooms are bright and modern. We offer a free waffle buffét every day between 16,00-21,00. Then you can bake yourself some crispy waffles with jam and whipped cream. With Kungsgatan/Kingsstreet around the corner and 2 minutes away from Järntorget, Old Town Haga, and the Långgatorna: this part of the city has the biggest concentration of bars, restaurants and clubs in the whole of Sweden.

GGuest User 2022.10.11
The hotel is located right near the main shopping area and close to many interesting sites. Public transportation is a few minutes away as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was nice. The breakfast was good and there is a waffle bar available in the evenings. The street is very busy and loud so if you want some quiet you have to close the window (if you're on the street side) but once the window is closed the room is silent. Very good value for the money, I definitely recommend it.

I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars. I liked the size of the room, the fact that the kids could have their own beds (we had a lofted family room), and the professionalism and courtesy of the staff. It was very nice that we could walk to Liseberg and the Universium from the hotel, since those were our two main destinations in Gothenburg. Breakfast was good. Not the best breakfast buffet I had in Sweden, but still good. There was quite a large selection so everyone found something to enjoy. The breakfast area did get rather crowded and noisy in the later part of the morning, but that’s probably to be expected in a hotel of this size. They seemed very sensitive to food allergies and restrictions, though I don’t have first hand experiences to report there. The maids did a great job cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming, and the linens were clean. The room really needed a deep cleaning, though. The wooden floor had engrained dirt and was sticky, the loft staircase handrail felt sticky, and the do not disturb sign was soiled. (It looked like someone sneezed on it.) This hotel was the only one in Sweden where I felt I had to keep my shoes on in my room so my feet didn’t get soiled. That really affected how I felt about my stay. Room cleanliness is very important to me. Also, only one window opened and only a few inches. The other was locked shut. The weather was quite warm while we were there and it would have been nice to open both windows. I didn’t enjoy that any kind of room cleaning or linen replacement had to be requested by 10 pm the night before. I am finding that this is a more and more common trend in hotels but on the other hand it wasn’t the case for the hotels where I stayed in Stockholm and Orsa. I’m not sure that I’d stay here again. Of the three hotels I experienced in Sweden, this is the only one I’d hesitate to return to.

Good points: (1) We really like its location. It was very easy to reach public transportations. It was also close by lots of local amenities such as Netto, post box, coffee shops, pizza place, and buffet breakfast. (2) Moreover, the hotel has a kitchen where we can warm our own food. Bad points: (1) We didn't like that we had to pay extra for bedsheets and towels. We travel a lot nationwide and to other countries - one of us used to work as a tour guide - and it was our very first time to be in a hotel/hostel/motel that does not include bed sheets with the original price. (2) Our room was located right next to a very noisy playground. From morning until night, it was always extremely noisy. So the only times we enjoyed our time in our room was when it was very late at night or when it was raining heavily, because then no kids were there in the playground. (3) One of the shared-toilets was incredibly stinky.

It’s very rare you find a hotel that checks all the boxes but this is it for me. Had the friendliest welcome when arriving at a late hour. The check in was quick, easy and I was in my room in no time. I’d forgotten adapters for my electrical items, the hotel was like no problem. Turns out the rooms have USB and USB-C plugs in the rooms so was covered. Moving onto the room. I had the best sleep ever. Perfect climate control. Wonderful views to wake up to and just every little detail was just amazing. After a delicious breakfast (lots of choice, Swedish and international cuisine), I explored the hotel further, the gym looks really good (I didn’t use it… just told myself I should have) and they also had a sauna. Moving outside, the location. The freshest air ever (it was nice to breath there) and literally just over the water from the city centre. If you like to walk, it’s perfectly acceptable however as I travelled with people who don’t like to walk, the hotel directed us to a bus stop one minute away. Literally two stops later, you’re in the centre. The hotel pointed out the work being done on the water front. There’ll soon be the option of getting back and forth that way. Finally, the team. It’s clear that this hotel clearly has the customers at the heart of what they do. Everyone I spoke to was warm, friendly and open to sharing hints and tips to make our stay in Gothenburg magical. And it was… EVERYONE needs to visit this wonderful city. I’m already planning my next trip and I will definitely stay again at this hotel.

GGuest UserTransportation: We arrived in Gothenburg by train. The hotel is about 3 kilometers away from the train station. You need to take tram No. 2 or No. 4 to get there (note that the directions of No. 2 and No. 4 from the train station to the hotel are in opposite directions). ). Taking a taxi with Uber costs between 100-200kr. If there are 3-4 people traveling, the price is similar to that of public transportation. A single bus ticket here is 36kr. Uber prices change at any time, so the range is a bit wide. Room: We booked a family room that can accommodate up to 5 people. It was considered a small suite. The big bed was separate from the other three beds, and there was a bathroom in between. The room is very clean. There is enough space. Breakfast: There are many varieties, which is quite rich, but there is no salmon in terms of meat. All kinds of sausages and hams. Vegetables were few, just cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce. This hotel is next to a paradise, just like domestic paradise hotels. If it is weekends and holidays, there will be many families with children staying. It will be a bit noisy at night and breakfast will be crowded. Overall satisfied.

GGuest UserI needed to arrange a conference at the same hotel a trade show was being held. Based on a previous experience I thought all would be ok, I was wrong. The hotel seems to work openly against your actual requirements. I'd asked for rooms to be reserved which proved a problem. I'd said from the outset that we'd require a group dinner with menu choices, this also proved to be a problem which resulted in me needing to find a restaurant nearby who could help. Ridiculous that Gothia towers (at it's size) expects a large group to all eat the same meal with no regards to choice, whereas a local restaurant can accommodate you seems strange to say the least. When arriving at the conference rooms I was taken aback that I wasn't able to meet my contact whom I'd shared so many emails. It was a faceless envelope handover and the mention of 'ask at reception if you need anything'. The only positive from this was a lady called Christina who was able to help locate items that had been shipped ahead, I'm grateful for her help. The breakfast room at the hotel was disorganized chaos, find somewhere to sit by yourself and get on with things. It reminded me of an all you can eat option in a hotel in Egypt years ago. An experience I never repeated, much like this event left me with the same thought!

GGuest UserA beautifully designed hotel with friendly staff. There were so many nice touches and the room (although rather small) had everything you'd expect and more. Stayed here for 3 nights and I wish I'd stayed longer. The breakfast was exceptional, so much choice and the quality was phenomenal. Had a gothic baroque feel to the decor and the location in the centre of Gothenburg was ideal. They even stored my bag and provided me with free coffee after I'd checked out. Incredible value for money too.

GGuest UserIt's and old building, and you can see that in many things. The hotel is, for a better word, a bit quirky. I had a single room, so it was quite small. The room was very clean, good bed and fresly renovated clean bathroom - nothing to complain in the room. The street outside is busy, but the windows are also quite good. I don't think there is air-con, you have to open the window a bit for fresh air. Might be more of an issue in summer. Breakfast did not have a huge selection of everything, but all they had was high quality and tasty. The hotel staff was also kind and polite. Parking is not perfect, they want to park you car themselves, as they double-park. This also leads to bit of waittime when you want your car.

GGuest UserThis hotel was really nice, a bit hard to find the entrance as its not typically with the reception at det ground floor, and you have to take the elevator up to the second floor. The people in the reception was really nice, they offered a light evening meal for free, and a ”fika” in the middle of the day. They also use rituals products which gives the hotel a bit more luxuray, and it smells amazing. The room was big, the bed was amazing and we enjoyed our stay 😁

GGuest UserThe hotel is situated in old/historic buildings. Very nice and comfortable. Perfect place to stay and have the ‘harbour-feeling’. Nice and friendly restaurant and breakfast. Good possibillities to charge your electric car. That’s really an extra service! Good to know is that the windows in the sleepingrooms (in our building) couldn’t be opened. With warm weather that could be a problem. Also we would appreciate to have some coffee or tea in the room.

I really like this hotel. I always book it every time I went there and never let me down. Hotel location is very good, close to the port, after breakfast, you can take a walk at the pier, the air is very good. It takes a two-minute walk to take the ferry to the city centre. It is very convenient, and it is expensive to take a ferry. The breakfast was very rich, the Swedish breakfast, there was no hot water before, but there was hot water. Can be an extra bed, but to pay, the specific price is not clear. The parking lot is very convenient, but the cost is quite high. There are small supermarkets around the hotel, there are quite a few restaurants, and the hotel also has a restaurant that tastes good.

GGuest UserJudging by the good reviews dating 2 or 3 years back, and my recent experience, I'd say this hotel probably suffered from the pandemic. On the plus side, the boat is beautiful, the location good, the welcome warm, and the breakfast was excellent. On the downside, the room was tired and shabby, had not been properly serviced, and the staff were somewhat confused. On an old ship, I'd expect the rooms to be old. But there was no closet to store clothes, just a couple of hangers dangling from loosely fitted hooks on the wall. The furniture was ancient, and the whole room needed renovation. There was only a tiny hand towel in the bathroom, and the trash was un-emptied. The service was also uneven to say the least. It was actually quite friendly, until we were told that the top deck was out of bounds and we had to stay ”inside”. We were not asked to prepay, and there was no-one in reception the following morning. We had to telephone a number written down at the desk to get someone to show up and take our money, and the checkout process took 20 minutes. In short, this looks like it was once an excellent hotel, but at least some of the rooms badly need renovating, and the whole business could do with an injection of professionalism.

GGuest UserStayed for one night in July 2023 with my husband. Check-in was smooth, friendly front desk receptionist explained everything we needed to know for the stay. The room was nice and clean, with the amenities you expect from a city centre hotel. In our room were three single beds, reading lights, a window with blackout curtains, a small desk and chair, side tables, a wardrobe, a full-length mirror, smart TV. The bathroom had a good size shower with good water pressure and temperature, a toilet and a sink. No place to put toiletries, but that was not a problem for us. Breakfast consists of scrambled eggs, sausages and beans, toast, rolls, ham and cheese, various sweet spreads, boiled eggs and fresh-cut vegetables, cereals, juice and coffee. Good selection of breakfast staples. Positive: The hotel is dog friendly, we met a gorgeous labrador at breakfast. So, if you are not a dog lover you may want to check your surroundings. Accessibility can be a challenge at the hotel, as there are steps up from street level to reception. There is a lift but it's small, a wheelchair user may find it difficult to get in and out. The restaurant where breakfast is served is in the basement and consists of several small rooms joined together, and a person with mobility issues may struggle to get around all the nooks and crannies.

LleimonThis month is also a low-cost youth travel in Gothenburg, so I took this opportunity to evaluate it. It is only a personal idea, so it is only for reference. But there are two points they are the same, that is, no one is really close to the University of Gothenburg, no one has a locker with lock. 1. The most cost-effective is the STF Youth Hostel. (Very important is that they push the door directly during working hours, do not lock the door, go in to the left hand side to manually check in, there is this one, others must get the access code in advance or ask for the intercom at the door. Very troublesome) Although the price is occasionally not the lowest, but the room may be allocated at least four people and up to 8 people, showing that men and women are mixed, but when there are not many people, they are basically separated. It is possible to mix when someone is full, and the kitchen is small but everything is complete. There is a lounge to watch TV. The toilet is the toilet, the shower is separate, and there is also a three-person shower room separated by a curtain. The nearby supermarket is very close, look at the santa ship, behind the Gothenburg church, walk for five minutes. Standing on a high place overlooking the scenery. Finally, they are free sheets and sheets. 2. Gothenburg backpacker hotel and slottsskogens are the names of two brands of the same family, that is, check-in and departure are handled at a counter. However, the floor and room type of the stay are different. The breakfast and kitchen are the same. The kitchen is ok, slightly larger, but not clean. Then there are also a mix of eight or six people. Because there are many people, they are uneven. The toilet and bath are in a room together. Their two youth hostels go out to the north and go to the Linnai Hotel at an intersection, and the opposite is linneplatsens. These four are together. The only benefit is that it is very close to the back mountain of Gothenburg, a five-minute walk, and then the Gothenburg Natural Museum is free. Finally, their sheets are also free. 3. Gothenburg Hotel is on the east side of the city, one stop south of the Lisboa playground, this access control is on the first floor, there is no way to go in when you can wait for someone to open the door and enter. Shopping around there is an expensive coop supermarket, there is nothing but a playground around, but two or three stops north to the Gothenburg Art Museum, which has Van Gogh paintings. This bed sheet is charged, because there are a lot of rooms, the lower bunk provides a curtain, it is still privacy, but there are many people, many eight-person rooms, separate toilets and separate bathrooms. The kitchen is ok, small and mixed. 4. This Linnai hotel is a private owner, between the Youth Hostel and the train station hotel similar feeling, unless its single room is cheap to the price of the Youth Hostel, other times, it is really not recommended. Otherwise, you may not be able to enter the door. There is a reason for their low rating. The single room I lived in was cheaper than the price of the berth, so I endured two nights, the kitchen was completely unusable, there was not enough kitchenware, the toilet was poor, and the bathroom was OK. 5. Gothenburg mini hotel, between the train station hotel and the feeling of home, the kitchen oven is basically bad, and the kitchen utensils almost have plates. Don't live if you can't live. Because the toilet and bathroom are also shared. Of course, in addition to the above youth hostels and hotels, I also stayed in the hotel, which is our domestic hotel, providing a rich breakfast, all kinds of things, except for some without refrigerators. The hotel does not have a public kitchen, of course, there is no public toilet and bathroom, all in their own house. Because after all, the price is there. So in general, ask for a low budget and your communication is barrier-free, bold and careful, just live in the Youth Hostel, of course, some people chat, and some people do not chat. But if you think there is still a budget for a trip, you want to eat more comfortably, choose a cheap hotel. It's a bit messy, I'll answer it alone if there's a question.
