1) The hotel’s location is not convenient for visiting for any of the scenic or historic sights in Gongyi city. It is not within walking distance of any place you would want to see or visit. You must take a taxi to and from the hotel to see anything in the ci
2) There are other hotels that are more conveniently located in the Gongyi city center on Xinhua Lu, Renmin Lu, etc., but they are not allowed to accept foreigner
3) The room walls were extremely thin. I could hear the sound of people in the two rooms next door on both sides of me flushing the toilet, talking and using their cell phones late at night. The sound of people talking loudly in the corridor outside my room could be heard through the closed door. There is no soundproofing.
4) There was some strange mechanical clanking sound in the wall right behind my bed headboard that went on 24/7 and never really stopped.
5) As a result of #1 and #2 above, I did not get a good night’s sleep during the three days I stayed there.
6) People were smoking in the corridor and in their rooms with the doors open on a floor clearly labeled by signage as a “No Smoking Floor.”
7) When I came back to my room at noon on the third day after a morning out sightseeing, I found that the room hadn’t been cleaned yet.
8) The hotel’s front entrance has a series of two layers of extremely heavy bank vault doors that customers must repeatedly push open to go in and out of the lobby but hotel staff standing right inside the doors lazily do nothing to help the guests open and close the doors. I’m physically disabled and this was very painful for my shoulder injuries.
9) Similarly, there is a very steep walk up an incline from the road to the building’s front door, but the driveway is intentionally kept closed, blocked off to vehicles so your car is not allowed to drive up to the building entrance to drop you off or pick you up.
10) The hotel’s security guard team is way overly zealous and extremely ******. Every day I stayed there they continuously treated me with watchful suspicion every time they saw me, watched me, endlessly stared at me, followed me, repeatedly got directly right in my face, shined flashlights in my face, called each other for back up so they could confront me together in a group. I was not allowed to sit in the hotel lobby. I was constantly questioned as to what I was doing there. The hotel’s security team treated me like a criminal, like a terrorist, like a ******, and not like a respected customer, all because I wasn’t Chinese. They do not make foreign guests feel welcome in their hotel.
11) None of the hotel’s staff speak any English, despite this being called a “International” hotel and despite being the only hotel in Gongyi city that is currently licensed to accept foreign guests. There’s nothing international about it all. Foreign guests must be able to communicate with hotel staff in Chinese.
12) As a result of #4, check in and check out were very difficult.
13) On the third day I stayed five hours extra past check out time, and was willing to pay a half-day extra, but instead they kept my whole 300 Rmb deposit and charged me for a full extra third day and night. The way I see it, they owe me money in the form of a half day's room rate refund.
14) Unfortunately, this is the only hotel in Gongyi City that is currently licensed to accept foreign guests, and it’s the only one listed on the Trip.com website. Gongyi is one of my favorite places in China to visit. I’ve been there three times and would like to go back again, but I would never stay at this hotel ever again. It’s not worth its 4 stars and not worthy of the word “international.
15) The hotel claims to have different types of rooms with various different names and rates, but actually, due to the overall floorplan, the rooms are basically all the same.
18) There was a cigarette burn on the carpet.
