Alpenhotel Speckbacher Hof

My Father first stayed at this Hotel in 1969, we holidayed there as children in the 1980's and 90's. The Hotel was extensively redeveloped in the early 2000's making it the superb setting it is today, in a beautiful quiet hamlet close to Innsbruck. We stayed for 6 nights in July '24. The whole staff, setting and hotel were superb. Rooms are beautifully traditional yet modern, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The food was excellent, from breakfast choices, which are limitless, to fantastic evening cuisine. We spent some time in the ground of the hotel, using the natural pool, looking up at the backdrop of stunning scenery. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enoughif you are looking to stay in the Tirol.

If your soul and body needs some peaceful relax you can do it in Tirol, especially in Speckbacher. It’s a very authentic Austrian village style hotel which is located in the Alps. They love their culture and traditions. Fresh air, fresh water, good infrastructure of local area. In the restaurant you can try national cuisine and seasonal offers. Their whipped cream from fresh milk is perfect. The hotel is clean, have sauna and a pond where you can swim. The only remark: this time in the minibar I have found expired items.

This is a very unrepresentative review for reasons that will become clear if you read on. Make of it as you will. My wife and I (along with abut 50 other people) at this hotel late one Saturday in July following the cancellation of our flight home. We were met with some 16 folk in the same position we were and a hotel manager who was unruffled, gracious, kind and efficient. he gave the impression that having 55 of so new guests descend upon him late in the evening happened all the time. He was sorting out rooms for us all and directed us to dinner (at 22:00). After that we went to our room. Which gave the impression of having been refurbished recently, as did tghe rest of the hotel. The room was spacious, clean, tidy and modern. It had an excellent bathroom and separate WC. Lots of storage and hanging space. Very comfortable bed and, joy of joys, feather pillows! Waking up next morning and opening the curtains revealed a lovely view (my brother's room opposite ha d an even better view and a balcony). Breakfast was forst-class with a huge array with freshly prepared hot food available if you wanted. Freshly squeezed orange juice made it perfect for us. Because of our circumstances we then had lunch at 11:30 and this was similarly excellent. We mooched around the grounds (quite lovely) until the coach came at 14:00, must to the irritation, I suspect, of the 'real' guests who must have wondered where all these disgruntled Brits had come from. Anyway the hotel was very, very good. We didn't try the facilities such as the wellness centre but it seemed fine. As I said this is an unrepresentative review but if the attitude of the staff is anything to go by then it is very good, excellent in fact, indeed. We (and the others) were treated with good humour, sympathy and efficiency and this smoothed many frazzled nerves. Standards were high and we'd be back in an instant if met our holiday criteria.

This is an authentic Tirolean experience, with humble origins but offering a first class spa like atmosphere. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains, and access to the hiking and biking trails couldn't be better. Rent the KTM e-bikes, they make the ride up the mountain very doable. And the breakfast is the best I've had in any European hotel, anywhere. A lot to enjoy here!
