The location of this hotel is beautiful, great surrounding scenery and a very cosy vibe, especially in the bar area. . We had a beautiful room with stunning views of the fells. It was spacious and clean. Unfortunately during our visit there was construction work at the hotel which meant builders banging and drilling between 9am and 4pm. Not too much of an issue as we were out and about during the day but still you don’t find out about this until you arrive at the hotel. Upon check in nothing was mentioned about the construction work and the receptionist although polite, failed to mention that the ramblers bar area was also closed for the duration of our stay. This would have been helpful to know prior to our visit as there is not much else in the surrounding area in the way of restaurants and we had planned to eat there one evening during our stay. We had a lovely meal in the other lakeside restaurant (which was open during our stay) however the breakfast both days was incredibly poor. I ordered eggs Florentine and my poached eggs were totally under cooked and inedible. To summarise - this is an ok hotel but we have stayed at much better elsewhere in the lakes for less money. Considering the price guests should be made aware of limited facilities at the hotel and rooms should be at a discounted rate. There is much room for improvement as our experience was no where near a four star rating. Based on my experience I honestly don’t think I would return to this hotel.

As usual our stay was made all the more pleasurable by the thoughtful and kind staff. The upgrade programme is looking excellent and we have already booked our next visit in September. The views and area are outstanding and we never get tired of visiting

Absolutely perfect! We received an afternoon tea voucher & decided to stay overnight in the hotel. The afternoon tea was gorgeous! A range of different options & lots of flavoured teas & coffee. We booked into the orangery for food on the evening & it was beautiful! The service was absolutely amazing & staff were so so polite! The room is great aswell with very comfy beds! I would definitely recommended staying here & we will be back!!

I didn't even go to this establishment, and I've heard nothing but bad things about place. horrible tasting food, half frozen food, and bad service. while I don't want to assume it's always like this, it could have done a lot better, hopefully soon

We went to the lake view restaurant for a birthday meal. I thought the main was tasteless (no sauce to speak of) and my partner was ill all night, presumably from the shrimp starter. The dessert was clearly straight out of the freezer and too hard to cut. For £133 we could have had 4 meals at the pub across the road and not got food poisoning. Waiter was nice.

Been here for lunch a few times over the years and always enjoyed it. This time however it was probably a 3.5/5 but couldnt mark it 4. We both had sandwiches which sadly werent great. Service was good with a view to die for from the orangery. Wouldnt be put off by this visit due to previous experiences but would hope for better things next time

Booked by my husband as a treat for my 60th birthday, prior to spending a week in a cottage in the village. The night included a meal in the Orangery and breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable and we were able to take our chocolate Labrador Rupert. The staff were brilliant, so professional and couldn’t do enough for us. Would love to visit again one day.
