Old Scottish lord atmosphere with a view on the loch. Convenient to explore the surroundings. Good food and beds

The hotel is very nice! Even if we checked in at 1am, we were patiently received! The decoration of the hotel and the toiletries provided are very high-end, the sheets and quilts are very clean, the scenery in front of the hotel is beautiful, and it is a 16-minute walk from the Glenfinnan train. It is worth staying!

This is a review of a meal in the Glenfinnan House Hotel restaurant / dining room Thursday 20th June 2024. I felt extremely ripped off by the dinner here. As a vegetarian, I had "Roasted Cauliflower Steak, Granny Smith Apple, Burnt Apple Puree, Sweet Raisin Sauce - £22.00". This consisted of one very badly-cooked (crunchy), thin 'steak' of cauliflower (about 5p-worth I would estimate) plus some small bits as trimmings, and a small amount of sauce. No sides included, no bread offered. The poorest, least satisfying, worst-value meal I've ever had. Also, oddly, the exact same glass of red wine cost a few pounds less in the restaurant than the same glass bought in the bar, so be wary of this. My impression was: atmospheric, super-Scottish, but a tourist rip-off. Tip: The Australian bar staff shipped in for the summer will try to sell doubles of everything so be careful.

Meal was very nice but very pricey for what it was. Staff were also a bit over the top and in your face. Setting and decor very nice, clean and welcoming. Menu was basic with little choice and lacking inspiration just the usual fish & chips, burgers etc. Local beers on tap but at £7.60 a pint!!

So sad to see an old friend of a hotel fall amongst the ranks of mediocrity. Called in for lunch in the bar. No welcoming fires and the front hall was decorated in faux Scottish baronial with so many assorted chairs it was hard to get through. The service, when it came was pleasant but for these prices I want to taste real food not some re-hashed ideas of some corporate menu. The artichoke soup tasted of mushrooms, the ham hock terrine was so over-salted as to be almost inedible whilst the chicken and lemon mayonnaise sandwich gave all the indications of having come from a commercially available tub - indeed the pre-packed sandwiches from ALDI are better. The hand cut chips worked out at 60 pence each with the pint of IPA at £8. All this in a bar area which reminded me of a kitchen unit shop - and not one of the best ones either. So thank you for the smiling barman but no thanks to the sort of business model that produces such banal mediocrity.

On a three week road tour of Scotland, we chose Glenfinnan hotel because of its location...on a Loch, somewhat isolated, but 30 minutes to ferry to Skye and Ft. William, 15 minute walking distance to Glenfinnan monument and Aqueduct (think Harry Potter), has a pub and nice dinner restaurant, five minute walk to take a two hour boat cruise of Loch Shiel. We struck gold with this choice. We booked one of the last available rooms, a queen bed with a view of the parking lot. Room view did not matter as weather was excellent, and the public rooms are beautiful and inviting to sit in during the evening. The room was of adequate size and nicely decorated. There was plenty of space in the bathroom to lay out toiletries, and ample drawer and closet space. In a word-practical. The food and service in the pub and restaurant were excellent. The managing staff was keen to make sure we were happy, but were not annoying. If you like to feel you are living in a manor house on your own lake with your every need addressed, this is the place to stay. A real gem.

Very hospitable hosts in an amazing old building, attention to detail 100% and oozing history in the artwork and actual building itself. Food was great, service top notch and located a short walk from the sights of Glenfinnan. On the shores of Lochsheil !
