We had a lovely night staying for our my cousin ‘s 60th. We have stayed with you a few times over the years but this was my cousin’s first time. She absolutely loved the hotel, especially the decor in the Pickwick room, which she described as the most beautiful room she had ever stayed in. Thanks for making a special occasion very special

stayed here for a weekend with friends. I cannot fault it at all. Lovely room with ensuite. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed. In a lovely quiet location. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Superb breakfast. had dinner here the first night of our stay. Absolutely delicious and efficient service. If we're ever in this area again, I would'nt hesitate to stay here.

Went for Sunday lunch - impressive decor and appearance with comfy chairs - tables well spread out. Starters were minuscule servings of pigeon and a pretty strong smelling prawn cocktail with a small piece of lobster. Mains were ok but personal preference is for help yourself veggies rather than it all arriving on the plate, red cabbage can be divisive and despite requesting that it be left off a couple of plates it still arrived. Cauliflower cheese was delicious but arrived in a small fiddly individual ramekin. Tasty chicken, but pork medallions were dry apparently, but beef looked beautifully pink. Surcharge of £5 on cheese board was definitely over priced for a total of 4 crackers with 2 of them being cheddars, served with an overbearingly sweet onion chutney - but the cheese was delicious. Desserts were all devoured and enjoyed so overall a bit of a mixed bag, throw in the long wait for mains to be served - left us feeling a bit under whelmed. Would come back again in a while to try again. Be aware car parking is limited - we parked at the tourist information - a short walk away as car park and other parking was full.

The building and decor is very warm and welcoming. As we arrived, the restaurant was empty so didn’t have an atmosphere feel to it, which I was expecting. The staff were friendly but couldn’t take our order quick enough, when we asked for 5 more minutes to look at the menu, they were back within 2mins. The menu is over priced for what you get, I personally think £15 for a cheese board is a bit over priced, the menu doesn’t tell you the size of the steak, so when we asked the weight, the chef weighed the steak, it was under 9oz, so £30 is a bit expensive for that. My partner asked for her steak medium, and it came rare so was sent back, which was disappointing, as my partner has only just started to eat her steak a little pink as she’s always had well done, my partner was struggling to eat the steak, so after having to leave the table to find the waitress to complain about the steak, the waitress came and apologised, took my partners plate, the steak was reheated and returned to the table, this is bad practice, a fresh one should have been served. After the food arrived, it was quite the opposite to when we arrived, nobody came to check back if everything was ok with the food, only came to remove my partners steak as I complained. The coating on the chicken was very salty. While the lemon dessert was delicious. My partners creme brûlée, stated, it was served with strawberries, but once arrived, it was served with raspberries, which again was disappointing as my partner doesn’t like raspberries, and the crempat was grainy. The waitress bought our bill to us when we had asked for it. But Then returned about 2 minutes later with the card reader machine to pay, didn’t give us chance to finish our drinks then go to the bar to pay. Unfortunately this was a poor experience from start to finish. We will not be returning

Sunday lunch - starter and dessert absolutely gorgeous and beautifully served. Main courses - meat was good as were the Heritage carrots, parsnips and broccoli. However the yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese was very disappointing. Roasts undercooked, the yorkshires overcooked and no substance or flavour and the cauli 'nuked' to death. These 3 items somewhat marred what would have been a lovely meal.

What a great spot! We came here for dinner in 2018 and loved it. We decided to come back and stay a couple of nights for our anniversary so we used the bed, breakfast and dinner deal. All so so good. Room was clean and spacious (stayed in the Pickwick) and both meals on both days/nights did not disappoint. We couldn’t have asked for more or better. Staff were friendly and attentive. All perfect, thank you so much!

We stayed a night, had dinner and breakfast. Everyone was friendly and helpful, the room was clean, spacious, warm and finished to a high quality. Would thoroughly recommend. A good selection of food cooked well, couldn’t ask for more. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Thinking back on this place, it was great. The pictures of the room did not do it justice. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The dinner was really good with nice portions and very interesting desserts. And finally, the breakfast was magnificent. All so good that I’ve often thought about it and took the effort to convey this.
