Matawhero Wines

The Matawheo cabins are amazing! There are four separate cabins each oriented away from the others for total privacy and views of the vines and mountains in the distance. Despite being not far from the tasting room, they felt very private and quiet. Our cabin, Harvest, was spacious and beautifully decorated. The linens were high quality and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchenette had a microwave, cooktop, toaster, electric kettle, pots/pans, dishes, mugs, etc. We appreciated that they had Netflix and NZ1. We loved the large porch with chairs for enjoying a glass of wine on a sunny afternoon (alas, we had rain). The entire front of the cabin is a sliding glass door for maximum views of the vineyard (with drapes for night time). When we arrived, we were invited to the winery for a complimentary tasting of 5 wines, all delicious. We also ordered a cheese plate which was more than enough for 2 people. Afterwards, we were able to choose a complimentary bottle of wine from the ones that we'd tasted. A continental breakfast was provided in the room: muesli, fresh local fruit, coffee, tea, bread, jam, yogurt. I wish we'd had a clear night to be able to star gaze. My only suggestion is to provide robes. It would have been wonderful (if we'd had clear weather) to sit outside and watch sunrise with our coffee. Overall it was a terrific experience and, though a bit pricey, felt like a good value with the tasting and complimentary bottle of wine. We would definitely stay here again. It's about a 10-15 min drive to town.

We stayed 2 nights in one of the vineyard luxury cabins. Very comfortable and warm, good internet and tv reception, lovely shower and comfortable bed. Beautiful sunrise in the morning, we enjoyed an afternoon wine tasting in the garden with a delicious platter. Anna was a great host and very happy to work in with our other commitments, time wise.
