DoubleTree by Hilton Girona

The Doubletree Girona is a pretty building as you approach it from the railway station on foot, the windows are very welcoming with the colored glass panels, it's a short 5/10 walk depending on your speed. Checkin was quick and allocated room on the 5th floor overlooking the road and retail park . Don't worry , the rooms are soundproofed and you do not hear any traffic noise at night or in the morning. Upgraded to a suite which was nice . The rooms were just a little bare but it was lovely to have all the extra space. The bed was super comfortable, clean and perfect for a good night's sleep. There was plenty of wardrobe space too and a kettle to make tea/coffee. Everything was clean and well appointed. The bathroom was a decent size with a long tub which was perfect to soak in after hitting Girona's streets. Lots of towels and toiletries and the lighting was good too. Breakfast was impressive , the bacon and scrambled eggs were great, super choice of cold meats, cheeses and fruit and pastries and bread fro everyone. You won't leave hungry. It's served in a big room so there was lots of tables, the coffee machine was pretty decent too and easy to use. Staff were super, very friendly and happy to help with any queries or directions into town. There is a bus service from outside the hotel but it only runs every 30 minutes and less in the evening so best to walk the 10/15 minutes into town and get some exercise. There is a Mercadona supermarket opposite the hotel for anything you might have forgotten. Girona is a great city to explore and an easy trip from Barcelona on the AVE or Rodalies trains and the Doubletree a good base to locate yourself.

We enjoyed the personalized reception. Services were top. Nearby the convenience to eat, shopping, visit two steps. The interior cafeteria is super. We have had a very pleasant stay. The hotel was not full, which allowed us to be quite privileged. We also appreciated the advice given by the host about the parking arrangements and above all to show us a safe and free place!

Liked Big airy room as you'd expect in a four star business/convention hotel Large well appointed bathroom Comfortable bed Big terrace with (very small) pool overlooking the city – actually not a very pretty view as most of the nicest part obscured – but still a sense of expanse and view Didn’t like Blasting music on terrace at all times I was there. Breakfast was appalling. It was explained to us when we arrived that due to covid they did not allow guests to serve themselves at a buffet but that there would be someone at the counter to serve us and get us what we wanted. What we actually found the next morning was a breakfast service more akin to something you might get at a railway station platform (and not a very good one at that) A few pastries, some prepacked items. There were some bananas and oranges. My husband spotted a fridge with some plastic packages of fruit salad. The coffee was awful. Why when so many coffee machines can provide good quality? Cups, plates and cutlery all disposable so it also looked like a station platform when people had finished. Really slow service at the counter leading to some long queues. This was so far from the standard one would expect of a hotel of this supposed quality and covid is really no excuse. Other hotels we stayed at during our trip were able to provide covid compliant breakfasts. Maybe they are trying to save money as lack of business travel must be an issue for them. Tatty corridor carpet I had chosen this as I wanted a hotel with a pool for relaxing after visiting the city. If returning to Girona I’d probably choose something more central and where I could escape elsewhere for breakfast if unlucky enough to find myself faced with equally poor standard of food and coffee.

Just arrived at hotel booked through Jet2. Would not let us book in because a couple of hours early. Get that to a degree . So booked in eventually. So advertise a bar. Reluctantly got a glass of wine. Could hardly open the door to get out to sit. Felt as though too much trouble as she had to unchain seating! All too much! Bizarre welcome! Got to room. No hangers for trousers. Basic request in hotel supposedly of this standard. Dressing Robe would fit eleven year old ! Rang down .asked for larger robe, can’t do. Seems hotel only had one member of staff? Same person is receptionist, barmaid and rooms lady! Shows four stars! Hopeless as she does not understand English. No manager to speak to. It’s a really poor start. Picked hotel because of reviews for anniversary on Wednesday. Regret already. Looking to speak to Jet2 to get what I paid for not a hostel! Everything in room over complicated as regards lighting and switches. Need to get basics right first. Waiting to speak to management in morning
Ciutat de Girona

We stayed at the Ciutat Girona on 14 April 2023. We were charged 174.64 Euros for a one night stay. This did not INCLUDE BREAKFAST in a room without a balcony. We had a drink in the hotel bar We wanted to go to our room to freshen up for the evening. The bar was left unattended for 10 minutes so we could not pay. After waiting we went to our room (405} to freshen up for the evening.. We had a phone call to the room after around 15 minutes accusing us off trying to get away with not paying. THE BAR HAD BEEN LEFT UNATTENDED..i do not take kindly to such accusations. The hotel bar was closed when we returned a little after 10 p.m. and we had to make do with what the receptionist could provide in between her other duties. We were on holiday and the whole experience at the bar left a lot to be desired. The air conditioning was defective so we had to have to the window of the room open because the room was so hot. Of course, deliveries to local businesses made sleep impossible as the night progressed. The television remote control did not work so there was basically no TV. The flooring at the entrance to the bath room was breaking up and not to an acceptable standard. And the final insult was that we were charged for water from the mini bar! We have stayed at the Ciutat before but this will be the last time. And I reiterate that we paid 174.64 Euros for this experience.
