Nice hotel, very comfortable family room. No working restaurant when we were there but some meals could be easily ordered via the exceptionally helpful receptionist from nearby restaurant, and delivered. Decent bar, pleasant situation next to the river.

The breakfast was excellent and very personal. Very friendly staff. The location was what you want from a hotel in a French village. The room was very well equipped

I was unable to access wi-fi, the room was very small, adequately clean, nice remodeled bathroom with clean walk-in shower. The hotel lobby and dining area need updating. Excellent breakfast. The staff was very good.

The location was perfect for Gien. The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable. They helped us to find good restaurants and the market. The parking for the hotel is free and right next to the hotel itself.

Although the hotel is dated, everything was clean and well cared for. Spacious room and bathroom; good beds and soft towels. The breakfast was varied and well prepared. Service very friendly. The only downside is the lack of an elevator.

We stayed at this hotel for one night on our way further south… the location was perfect, walking distance to town where we had a lovely meal overlooking the Loire . The bed was very comfortable and the towels were thick & fluffy. However we were really disappointed with the room, Wi-Fi was very weak, carpet was badly stained and the bathroom was dirty For £97 we didn’t expect luxury..but we did expect a better room than we were allocated… especially when Hôtel wasn’t busy. I have read other reviews and there are obviously some really nice rooms at the hotel but room 109 isn’t one of them.

Overall good. Décoration a bit outdated but clean and comfortable. No air conditioning so can be hot in the summer. Equipped with basic necessities in room (don’t expect a coffee maker or fridge). Parking area is a bit rundown and small. Friendly staff and convenient location easily accessible.

We chose the hotel for its location and because it offered charging for our electric car. It’s a grand old hotel, with a lovely feel. Bed was comfortable, breakfast was good, and the view over the river was lovely.

This place has the potential to be an absolutely fabulous hotel, but, as is often the case in France, it lacks the polish and professionalism to rise above the basic, disappointing, minimum level that ticks the box for “satisfactory” - in some cases it even falls below this: the rear carpark (what should be a beautiful, white cliff enclosed haven) is instead an overgrown unkempt dump, the air conditioning in the “executive suite” room is long in need of a service and blows only stale warmish air with an accompanying rattle (the room was like a stale sauna when we arrived - an issue not helped by the very poorly chosen interior secondary double glazing (large window panes opening internally across the room and constantly trying to close and trap small fingers unless propped with a chair! The bathroom versions have been designed to cause head injuries to adults instead!), the shower in the bathroom (with pealing cracks in the ceiling above the bath) should have been replaced 5 years ago, the staff (although cheerful, friendly and courteous) seem to lack the training and enthusiasm to be more useful (I stood for a few minutes waiting to be told whether I should find my own table or be seated, no instructions as to how the buffet/coffee etc worked - it’s not difficult to just provide a simple bit of “how can I help” style customer service: “please take a seat anywhere you like, help yourself to the buffet and coffee, let us know if you need anything else: perhaps a highchair for the toddler? for example… I had a similar example of this lacklustre service on checkout, and was not even thanked for my stay or offered perhaps some help with baggage (our room was 3rd floor, no lift and two young children with us - a help with a bag or two might have been gratefully received!). Good points (because this place has many!): it is wonderfully situated, has private parking (although see above and you may require a tetanus injection before exiting your vehicle), the rooms and interior are immaculately clean (although needing a bit of attention to detail in terms of material repairs), the decor and furnishings are delightful and classy (it has a really chic, expensive feel expected of a higher priced accommodation), the rooms are large and airy with views across the Loire over a quiet riverside street, the beds are large and comfortable and the buffet breakfast was a very good fresh selection. The suite lacked a fridge or coffee making facilities but otherwise was spacious and well appointed. In summary: clean up the rear of the building, fix the few minor issues like shower heads, paint and some training/encouragement to provide more attentive staff - after these improvements I would be more than happy to visit again and would most likely give 5 stars, until then it’s with disappointment, just “satisfactory”.
