Overall, this hotel disappointed me greatly. I had chosen it partly because it was advertised as being convenient to public transit. Not so. The #1 tram, which my reservation confirmation mentioned as an easy way to reach the hotel, has been out of service for a while now and will remain so for the next four years while the city renovates the route. Yet the hotel's final communication with me, just before my arrival, failed to mention this. This caused me no end of trouble. But it was also typical; I never felt that I was in a hospitable hotel where anyone cared about my comfort or convenience or even whether I enjoyed my stay. The proprietor, who does everything from making the beds to setting out the breakfast to staffing the office, gave the impression that beyond his considerable responsibilities, he had no time or energy for anything but the absolute minimum. Luckily, the people of Ghent welcome visitors, and it was thanks to them that I enjoyed the city at all. Despite the physical signs of wear and tear, the Erasmus Hotel has some charm. One afternoon, I was returning from a museum visit and heard someone play the antique organ on the premises, and someone singing lieder to it. I've also never eaten breakfast in the shadow of a suit of armor. Nevertheless, I wish I'd stayed somewhere else.

We have just spent two nights at this hotel and the location is ideal for walking or cycling into the centre of Ghent. The rooms are compact but functional for a short stay, we had the two single beds (rather than a double bed) as you get more space. Breakfast is good with a reasonable choice. Car parking is underground so your car will be safe although it is 14 euros per night. We hired bikes for 10 euros each and cycled all over Ghent, just be careful of the trams and tram lines. The staff at the front desk were very helpful. we would happily stay here again if we visit Ghent again in the future.

Apartment we booked reminded me of my staying in Japan… Everything has a place and everything in its place. What’s required for 4 persons to sleep and bath are just machined to fit in and anything extra is available on payment… all are neat and clean. But, what stands out in this hotel is the hospitality of the staff… Almost all Staff are trained and tuned to address the customers in a professional way. Here I found a little extra. Attitude, service with smile. Never get irritated even for the silly queries or so. To name a few, Tessa, Innike, Xxxx, Yyyy were all so responsive and supportive to ensure you’re comfortable. So are the kitchen staff- Thai Lady, Philippines Chef and everyone. They not only serve but ensure that those who are still around at closing time, pick up their wants and Shut down. At the bar counter, forget the name, I asked for coffee and she came middle of her lunch and gave Any place or organization gets its name and pride by the staff on the ground and here they are. Keep it up Team. Some areas that could be improved upon. 1. Trash can be kept outside the rooms and house keeping staff can pick it up instead of guests bringing it down as If they litter all the way, it’d be a big mess. 2. For coffee/ tea making, since no house keeping comes around, there has to be a system where guests can pick up Tea, Coffee, Sugar and milk as required with a sense of ownership 3. Breakfast menu and dinner menu could be subtly changed to set the surprise expectations. 4. In the apartment, instructions to operate the Induction stove could help guests to be self starters. 5. Travel help- There could be stickers or posters showing your current location, how to get to important attractions / Places, Bus / train timings etc., Thank you team. Look forward to coming back.

the hotel was a total surprise as it was booked for me. The staff are welcoming, nothing too much trouble. The room was spacious, clean, and the bed huge and extremely comfortable. the double size shower was also great, as was having both a nespresso machine and a kettle and frdige in the room. Even the complementary chocolates were a revelation - no pre-packaged mints here. Breakfast buffet was fresh and extensive and not having to checkout until 12 was a very nice feature. The hotel is in a great location in the centre of the old part of the city and was surprisingly quiet for the central location. The restaurant was also amazing - edible works of atrt with incredible flavours. I cannot wait to return.

Because we in Belgium use public transport (train-tram bus) on our weekend trips, we chose this hotel that is just 300 metres from the St. Pierres Station in Gent. We can then get there and get the most beautiful places in Gent with the tram and enjoy a dinner in the many good restaurants that Gent is rich. The first thing we found in this hotel was the very friendly welcome to the bar, and we had a spacious, beautiful and hygienic room with everything on and out. The quiet location was also very important, despite the short distance from the station. We also enjoy an extensive and delicious breakfast with excellent service (e.g. a separate map where you can choose from a few eggs made at la minute! In short, we will certainly go back there.

When it comes to thinking of places to visit in Belgium, the town of Aalter in East Flanders, probably isn't the first place to spring to mind. Granted it doesn't have the charm of the Belgian coast, or the bustling hubbub of the larger, more tourist-oriented attractions, but its central location halfway between the cities of Gent and Brugge make it an great place from which to explore. The 4-star Best Western Hotel Orchidee in the center of Aalter provides an ideal base where you can plan your explorations. Aalter train station is a 15 minute walk away, and from there you can catch one of the regular trains to Gent or Brugge, with either journey taking half an hour. Alternatively, as the E40 motorway is just a few hundred meters from the hotel, both cities are accessible by car in around 20 minutes. I stayed at Hotel Orchidee for 3 nights just after Easter, 2022. The earliest check in is 2pm, and so this was the time I designated upon booking. (A word of caution for those hoping for a late check in. The reception desk closes at 11pm.) I arrived at the hotel at 2:05pm and was greeted by Piet, the hotel manager, who told me that my room would be ready in 10 minutes. There are several facets that I would expect from front of house staff - especially the manager - of a 4-star hotel. One of these is that they should be well groomed, besuited preferably, but nevertheless tidy in appearance. After all, they represent the hotel, a guest's first impression of what they might expect; and as the saying goes ”You don't get a second chance to make a first impression.” My first impression of Piet was that he was someone for whom sartorial elegance was not a phrase he was familiar with, with one too many buttons open on his creased shirt and apparent indecision on whether said shirt should be tucked in his trousers or not. Still he was amiable enough and pointed to the spacious, well-appointed bar off to the right of reception, where I could wait for my room. Whilst waiting, in addition to noting that the bar staff were better attired than the manager, I had time to peruse the menu, and discovered that a hungry guest could choose from crisps, nuts, a plate of cheese and salami, or a Croque Monsieur. Not exactly what I would expect from a 4-star hotel kitchen. I would later discover that the reason for this limited dining experience is due to the fact that the hotel does not employ a chef. Piet the manager is apparently chief, cook, and bottle washer, which probably explains why room service is not offered. My room was on the second floor overlooking the car park (which incidentally provides free parking, except on Saturdays when the Farmers Market is held), and no fewer than six bottle banks that are almost constantly in use throughout the day. If, like 1970s singer-songwriter Nick Lowe you ”love the sound of breaking glass”, this will make you feel right at home, otherwise it's somewhat irksome. The room was spacious enough, clean, with modern decor and

CCurious TravellerThe hotel is in a historic building and centrally located in Ghent. It is walkable to all major sightseeing destinations. Our room has a beautiful view of St Nicholas Church, and the square in front. The room was quite stylishly decorated with high ceiling but the. Shower and wash basin are on the upper level. Maybe inconvenient for some people. At least the toilet is on the same level as the entrance. My room was a bit small, only suitable to have two cabin size luggage opened at the same time. Overall it is a lovely hotel and really added to our two days stay in Ghent.

GGuest UserThe location is fantastic, right on the water and you can walk out the door to explore Ghent. The hotel itself is fine, not the most modern/ nicest Marriott I have ever stayed at and certainly not the worst. Parts definitely seem dated. There is a parking garage under the hotel- and you can park there for a nightly fee. The service was not good. When I checked in there was absolutely no recognition of my Ambassador Elite status and no benefits of that status were explained to me. I asked about a suite upgrade, and the girl that was checking me in was fine but another girl (long straight dark brown hair) yelled over from the other side of the counter in a very rude way saying she took care of it already (cutting off the other associate). Our room was not a suite- so she didn't take care of it. Then I asked about a late check out and she yelled over again saying she put it in the system. When I asked if our keys would continue to work she looked at me like I was an ***** and said she took care of it. Which she didn't- we had to get our cards re-keyed the next morning, and they had no note in the system that we previously asked for a late checkout. It felt completely unprofessional- if the other associate wanted to answer my questions or manage my check in process, she could have easily done it by walking over and having a professional and pleasant conversation with me not by yelling over and cutting off the person who was helping me. It felt like she was annoyed that I was asking about the perks that come with the my Marriott status, not welcoming of a new guest to the hotel. Neither the girl who claimed to have taken care of everything, or the girl checking us in explained anything about perks, and I felt so frustrated (about the rude interaction) when they handed me my keys that I didn't even ask. I walked up to the desk after and explained the situation to a male associate standing there who could not have been more kind, apologetic and welcoming. There is no lounge, so he gave us two drink coupons, and said a buffet breakfast at the restaurant was included instead. They also mentioned that the mini fridge was included, but it only had like 3 small bottles total in it (one water, one soda and one beer) so it was not a very big perk. Overall, Ghent was beautiful and the hotel is in a great location. I would stay here again with a very low bar set for service from the front desk.

GGuest UserNette schone kamer. Parkeren 19,- is best prijzig. TIP: huur zelfstandige in via Young Ones.

GGuest UserGreat hotel in a great location, the best way to travel in Belgium is by train, this hotel is a 300 meter walk from the main train station, the road down to the centre of town is lined with nice restaurants and cafes and a very pleasant walk, alternatively there is a Tram right outside the door. We had a small problem with one of our friends and the hotel went out of their way to help us out, they also have a great breakfast room on the 6th floor with views out over the city. The Hotel staff are also very good, making sure you have what you need in your room.

GGuest UserThe location is fantastic! There is a tram stop right outside and you can easily walk to most major attractions. We really enjoyed the variety of options at breakfast. Note: It is an older hotel that creaks and cracks and the shower pressure wasn't always 100% but it has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

GGuest UserI stayed for a night as part of a business trip, primarily being attracted to the hot l because of the indoor swimming pool. The hotel was lovely, in a really nice area and had a really welcoming, relaxed feel. Check in was good and the receptionist really helpful, there was a small bar and we sat in the terrace with our drinks which was really pleasant. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was great we made Bacon sandwiches which were really nice. I also used the pool for an early morning swim. The pool is small, but you can reserve it for your private use which is great. There is also a sauna. Overall this is a fantastic, privately owned, very reasonably priced boutique hotel with a lovely feel. I would recommend to anyone visiting Ghent and would love to stay again.

Heerlijke douche , mooie badkamer. Heel vriendelijk personeel. Leuke aankleding , heilige hoekjes met een knipoog. Uitstekend ontbijt in mooie zaal, erg uitgebreid. Ligging is perfect !!! Een aanrader ondanks wat puntjes!

GGuest UserA very disappointing stay at Novotel Centrum. Pros - Location. You can't get a better location. Close to everything including lots of eateries at your doorstep. Cons: Customer service - the customer service was the worst I've experienced in a long time. The staff were disinterested and rude. We checked in and I came down to advise that there were no baby beds in the room even though we had requested them well in advance and in all correspondence with the hotel before arriving. I was greeted with 'Hi, are you checking in' by the same person who checked me in no more than five minutes earlier. I would have accepted this but it happened again the next time I approached the reception desk. It was not a busy period for the hotel. I was rudely told off for asking again when I came downstairs to double check a second baby bed was indeed coming as only one had been delivered to the room in the time between first enquiring. I also made another enquiry during our stay and the staff member said they would provide me the answer but never got back to me. Room The room itself was dark and very old. I didn't want to spend any time in there. The rooms haven't been updated for a very long time and due to this the room felt dusty and not very clean. When the baby beds did arrive, one was in good condition and the other was in a terrible state. The material keeping the bed together was ripped in a number of places and the mattress itself was basically split in half due to being folded up so many times. I understand that baby beds are complementary, but this was not acceptable. When the rooms were cleaned, they only did a very surface level clean. Things weren't replaced and not all the rubbish was collected. Amenities We paid for breakfast and there were enough options. The bar had a good selection of Belgium beers on offer. There is a swimming pool outside that looks maintained but there is no safety fence around it so if you're outside in the bar area or in fact anywhere in the entrance area of the hotel you have to watch your children as they may accidentally walk into the pool.

GGuest UserA little disappointed with the decor, quite run down and desperate for a refurbishment staff on the other hand were excellent and very attentive. Unfortunately being of low cost, attracts some of the wrong sort of clientele, too! We suffered with noisy people partying until 2am when we finally decided enough was enough and tried ringing reception, phone didn’t work, so personal visit to reception sorted the issue. Non-smoking rooms, stunk of smoke. Otherwise clean and reasonable beds. Breakfast was ok.
