Kalahari Arms Hotel

Upon arrival we were told that the hotel could not honor our two night booking and were surprised that our travel arranger had not told us. It’s not clear to me who was at fault but it wasn’t a nice introduction to the hotel. It ended up working in our favor as we spent the second night at a place we liked far better (Symponia, see my review). The rooms are an interesting mix of rondavels (which are the original rooms and didn’t seem to be occupied), more traditional hotel rooms, and “duplex” bungalows. I was in 608. The room was a reasonable size and relatively comfortable. There was a fridge and the Internet worked reasonably well. The AC was pretty weak and might not have done a very good job of cooling the room if it had been hotter out. The mattress was really hard as were the pillows. There is a sizeable pool which didn’t look super clean but it was still a nice place to sit and relax. The restaurant has an extensive menu and the pizza was surprisingly good if a little heavy on the cheddar. The wait staff were efficient and gave my colleague a free scoop of ice cream after they realized that they didn’t have any buns left for her burger. My other colleague wasn’t impressed with her beef dish as it was dry and salty. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, particularly the omelette I had made. The hotel is centrally located but we’ll be staying at the Symponia in the future. Did I mention that it (Symponia) is also cheaper?
