Gumbo Limbo was a highlight of our trip to Belize. We had a 16 year old and 14 year old with the two parents and we loved our jungle oasis. Christine and Jay have a beautiful resort set in the jungle, but, more importantly, have a wonderful atmosphere at the resort. The included breakfasts are tasty and filling- and they will move your breakfast earlier on your long exploring days. The dinner meals are very tasty and filling. They seem to know all the tour operators/restaurants/events around San Ignacio and are full of good tips. The rooms are cleaned daily and are very comfortable. The best proof we can give you is we cancelled our next reservation and extended for three more days at Gumbo Limbo! You do need a four wheel drive for the short drive in and this is not where you want to stay if you are 20 somethings looking for a party destination. For everyone else, it can't be beat!

Our stay at the Gumbo Limbo was exceptional. The cabins were clean and beautiful. The pool was a wonderful place to cool off after a day of adventure in the area. Meals were locally sourced and so tasty. Although the amenities were great and relaxing, the best part of the stay was our visits with the owners, Christine and Jay. They were very friendly and helpful. Just a wonderfully hospital place.

A perfect place near San Ignacio to be a stress free home base for families. A small eco resort (only 5 rooms I believe) but it was perfect for my family, breakfast every day and the ability to coordinate with the hosts to have dinner on site if that is your preference (we did it twice and were not at all disappointed). The pool is a great way for the kids to cool down after a day of adventures. The super power of the sight however is the knowledge, responsiveness and kindness of the hosts! They are Awesome!

Our stay at Gumbo Limbo Resort was fantastic. Christine was incredibly welcoming and made our visit memorable with her helpful recommendations. The resort’s location was ideal—peaceful yet conveniently close to the main road for easy access to local activities. The turn off from the main road to get to Gumbo Limbo is an adventure but our AWD SUV had no issues. The food was exceptional, featuring fresh, local flavors that were a real treat. Because it is a small resort, the menu is limited but we always found something that was great. Although the pool is somewhat small, it was very well-maintained and perfect for cooling off and relaxing. Our family cabin was the perfect space for our family of 5. The hammock was also a big hit with our family. Overall, Gumbo Limbo Resort is a charming, well-located retreat with great service and delicious food. Highly recommend!

We spent 4 nights at Gumbo Limbo and wish we were still there! It is beautiful, peaceful, and serene. The owner, Christine, is absolutely fabulous. We didn’t have the pleasure of meeting her husband while we were there, but I imagine he’s just as fabulous. They make you feel like family here. The staff is also super kind. The food is fantastic, too. Christine gave us wonderful recommendations to do and see in the area that just added to our experience here. We all enjoyed cooling off in the pool after a day of exploring the area. The rooms are simple, but inviting and the beds are very comfortable. You can’t beat the scenery here. We didn’t want to leave! Highly recommend Gumbo Limbo. We can’t wait to come back again someday.

We had a wonderful time at Gumbolimbo. The resort is exactly what we expected based on the photos - the views were spectacular, the pool was wonderful, the atmosphere was relaxing and just perfect. We ate dinner each night at the hotel because we were out all day and did not want to go back to the town. But we all loved everything that came from the kitchen and I'm glad we stayed. I would recommend this resort to anyone and hope one day to come back.

Christine and Jay were very down to earth people with great recommendations of places for food, and things to do nearby. The pool was refreshing after a hot day exploring the jungle. Breakfast every morning was wonderful on the patio of our casita dinner was relaxing on the evenings where we wanted to just chill and enjoy the property. We had a lovely stay!

I'm really not the most experienced traveller or tourist, so you can take this with a grain of salt if you like. But this was far-and-away the best place I've stayed at in my travels so far. The Room: My partner and I were staying in the "executive suite". It was spacious, comfortable, and well-lit - it had recently been renovated. It had a splendid view of the grounds and the forest beyond. The website rightly identified that there's not much water pressure in the shower, but we found it more than enough for our purposes. AC worked well, but during our stay we found the ceiling fans were often more than adequate. The Grounds: Beautiful and well-maintained. The owners and staff should be proud of the standard they've maintained. Flowers and trees well tended-to, pool is clean and a nice temperature though we didn't make much use to it. As an avid birdwatcher, the lane is great to stroll; there are trails running through the jungle below the resort; and there are a number of scenic viewpoints overlooking a gorge running below the resort (especially beautiful and sunup and sundown!) The Restaurant/Bar: Food was delicious! Breakfasts are standard continental breakfast fare - they are flexible dinners are usually limited to a choice of one of a couple of options, but whatever we ordered was tasty and reasonably-priced. You can also order off a larger menu when the restaurant is open for lunch. As for drinks, the owners are pretty good mixologists as well! The restaurant itself is open-air, with a great view of the pool and hills beyond. Fortunately, there were virtually no biting insects at any point of our stay. The Location: I wasn't able to rent a 4WD/AWD on arrival in Belize, and I *did* get stuck on the incline on the road in - put it up to my inexperience with steep grades! Road condition was fine, though, and after that first hiccup I didn't have any issues driving the roadway. This place would be a bit isolated if you didn't have your own vehicle, but there are a number of restaurants and points-of-interest within a short drive of the resort - just ask the owners and they'll be happy offer suggestions. On the whole, it is a tranquil location - very easy to get a good long sleep! The Owners/Staff: Well, if people are the true measure of a place, Gumbo Limbo couldn't be in better hands. Jay and Christine were true treasures - and I'm not just saying that as a biased fellow-countryman! (We're all Canadians) Extremely hospitable and accommodating, always there with suggestions for activities or just to offer interesting conversation. Christine knew her birds as well, which is always nice! The atmosphere was always cozy up at the restaurant. The other staff were always friendly as well, and the dogs - well, we loved all three of them!
