A poorly maintained property with pictures that do not align with reality. This is a very old facility with no elevator (meaning you'll need to haul your bags up multiple flights of stairs) and many fire hazards (no fire alarms). The staff is horrible - from the front desk, restaurant and beyond - they all clearly do not like their job and seek out opportunities to be rude. Twice times during my stay, the housekeeper just opened my door without knocking. It is also in a rather dangerous part of town. Do not stay at this hotel.

Just two-night stay last week. After three trips to Guyana, Cara seems to be the best cost-benefit in the country! Caribbean feel, all wood, charming. Hotel has a few issues: no water out of shower (they quickly upgraded my room), and the fact that they have an own booking agent online, that I used, but the Reception desk did not honor the Lower price I had gotten… Highest qualities: 1. Ms. NEKA MILLINGTON, a lovely room maid, always smiling, very helpful. 2. Great restaurant.

The hotel definitely has character. But also comes with some downsides. Was noisy. Service was generally abysmal (not a word I use often!). We stayed on 3 different occasions and sadly our experiences were pretty consistent. Food very mediocre and service incredibly slow. Did have a rum tasting dinner at the hotel (though this was organised by our tour company -Wilderness Explorers - absolutely fantastic!!) and this was good. Didn't help my husband left his AirPods on the bedside table and they got stolen (presumably by the cleaners). He actually could trace them for a period of time to the block down from the hotel!. The hotel was not interested and never followed up (my view was it was his own fault for leaving them but the complete disinterest by the hotel was poor as it was obviously one of their staff that took them as they were left in a locked bedroom). Suggest you stay one or two nights to experience the history but for longer stay somewhere else!! And eat elsewhere too!!

The food here is excellent, they have a wide variety both international and Guyanese cuisine and the service is excellent. It’s very quite and colonial style architecture take you back in time. Part meets present. If you are looking for good service, food and a quiet and relaxing space, this is it

Excellent stay at the Cara Lodge in May 2024! Great room well taken care of by the room attendants. Very pleasant and accommodating staff. Very good restaurant with a preference for the Salt Fish and Bakes and the Garlic Pork! Gavin, keep up the great work!!!!

Stayed at this hotel many times on business. The old part was built over 180 years ago and the rest of the buildings have been added in the same colonial style, which has a certain charm. Its main drawback is that it is very noisy. You will hear everything that is going on outside, in the hallway. It was often the case that the shower only had cold water. On the positive side - very good restaurant compared to others in the city. Well and the best room is the suite under the roof - two rooms, kitchen very and comfortable. Verdict, if you want exotic, stay here.

My wife and would like to offer our sincere apologies to a few of the staff at Cara lodge in Georgetown, Guyana. First of all to the two receptionists we encountered on our three separate stays in April - it was very thoughtless of us to arrive during the day and disturb you by wanting to check in. Furthermore we didn’t know it was rude to smile and be friendly or we certainly wouldn’t have done so, and should not have been surprised that you did not return the smiles. It was also especially inconsiderate of us to have expected someone to help take our one bag up three flights of steep and narrow stairs, even though we were staying in the Quamina Suite - your top accommodations. To compound our rudeness I personally apologize to the receptionist I asked for glue or something to help reattach a sole that had come loose on my sneaker. I should not have been surprised that you didn’t give a damn and offer any kind of help. We also offer our most sincere apologies to the tall waitress at breakfast - there is no reason for you to smile and be pleasant at 8AM when we were they only people in the restaurant. We also apologize for disturbing you at the bar in the afternoon and we know we were because you made it very obvious. We would however like to thank the barman and the two waiters who looked after us so wonderfully at our delicious rum tasting dinner, and the pleasant and helpful young man on our second and third stays who did carry our bag up the three flights of steps.

Our group is a surgical team working for 1 week in Georgetown 4x/year. We chose Cara Lodge on the recommendation of the hospital’s Board Chair. Every aspect of our interaction w/all associated w/the Lodge has been outstanding. Reservations accommodated the team even with our changing room needs 3x! The food is delicious. All servers are pleasant and efficient! The rooms are just fine; clean, quiet, comfortable and a great shower! We are returning for our third visit in May and will do so for our Nov. mission. Other hotels were suggested as they are less expensive and closer to the hospital but all team members agreed that they feel safe and the staff is very responsive and accommodating and prefer to stay at Cara Lodge.
