Hotel Villa Bonera

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at this lovely villa. Our room was clean and comfortable, with an amazing view out to sea. We went half board and the evening meals were to die for! Very friendly service from all members of staff. We would recommend the Villa Bonera with total confidence. This was our second visit and we will definitely come here again.

Read the negative reviews first, and have a laugh at Marco's replies. Then read the glowing reviews and believe them. You can stay at a 4,5 star hotel anywhere (and pay the price). This is a unique place and experience. You get much more than you pay for. Dated? Well, yes, 5 hundreds of years! I booked for 3 nights, arrived by train on my bike, single room with private bath down the hall. When I saw the Nervi Seaside Passeggiata and arrived at the Villa, I knew i found Home. I was fortunate to extend my stay 5 more nights! Marco accommodated my bike in a locked room. I never used it as the transport system is a 5min walk and the sea is even closer. Reviews have trashed the bathrooms. They're sparse but CLEAN with good water temperature control and pressure. No air conditioning? I stayed here in August during a heat wave. The ceiling fan was adequate. I had a single room with the bath down the hall. There is a sink and bidet in the room. I'm picky about cleanliness. The rooms were clean enough that i walked barefoot. You get either a sea or garden view. All quiet. Breakfast was abundant and tasty. Dinner was always great with good choices. The staff made me feel like family (as it is family run). Nothing i can add that hasn't been said better than i could. I just hope I can find room here again next year.

We stayed at Villa Bonera for 3 nights at the end of a 3 week visit to Italy. The location of the hotel is convenient, a short walk from the station. Nervi is a pleasant. upmarket outer suburb of Genoa, with parks, museums, sea-front walks and a small harbour. You can use it, as we did, as an excellent base to explore Genoa, the eastern side of the Riviera, and further afield to the Cinq Terre - easily accessible by train. The hotel is an old (1500s) building that has been family-run since the 1950s. The current generation in charge, siblings Marco and Barbara, are everything you could want from hosts. Attentive, informative, intelligent, funny. In our opinion, the reason to stay at Villa Bonera is Marco, Barbara and their team, who create an atmosphere that is welcoming, informal and fun. Judging by some other reviews, if you are looking for modern and chic, this may not be the best choice for you. If you want to relax in informal surroundings, then make that booking. You'll have a great time. We decided to upgrade our room booking to half-board and were very happy with that decision. Breakfasts were excellent and the evening meal was always a pleasure. We are vegetarian and were struggling to find good, affordable meals in Italy. The evening menus always included at least one great choice of primi AND secondi. The entire time I stayed at Hotel Villa Bonera, I promised that I would give a glowing review. Barbara and Marco are patient, funny, gracious and warm. They were so welcoming and I can not think of a more memorable stay in Genoa. The breakfast and dinner was delicious. Dinner was an amazing value and convenient. This hotel may not be for everyone. It's not a 4 or 5 star hotel--it's quirky. But you're rewarded with a memorable experience with honest and warm hosts. I also adored the museums in Nervi and the town as a whole. I would 100% come back to Nervi--so charming, so unique and so laid back. Totally up my alley.
