Ironically i write this review not wanting to give away a secret but fear I might ... We (myself, wife and 2 daughters aged 11 and 14) had a wonderful summer holiday in the Otzal region and specifically spending 6 nights the The Secret Solden in mid July. We flew into Innsbruck and it was an easy and enjoyable drive up to Solden and were greeted by Nora with "Hello Mr ", a really nice personal touch and one of many to come. The facilities are top class and sheek in design. There is a large, spacious underground garage for the car that connects to the hotel. The hotel itself oozes class and style. The indoor/outdoor swimming pool is made of steel, no cracked / old tiles etc. Around, near and above the pool area are comfortable deck chairs, beds, quiet reading rooms and whilst sitting in the pool outside you look up to the amazing mountain with the James Bond 007Elements facility at 3000m. Between 3-5pm there are afternoon cakes and tea provided free of charge. The steam room, sauna etc are of course spotless and equally spacious and high quality, although there are no signs it is generally expected to be a no-clothing facility. In terms of accommodation, we had a 2 bedroom "medium secret" apartment and it was exactly as per the photos and perfect for us with separate kitchen and a living space at the opposite end to the bedrooms. For eating and drinking, the morning breakfasts were a real highlight. You order an a la carte hot breakfast item at the table that is cooked perfectly and bought to your table whilst you help yourself to an amazing array of buffet items. All items are stylishly presented, often in small individual / one portion servings, this is not your typical "zoo feeding" buffet. We also had dinner at the restaurant one night and it was spectacular. Like breakfast, the items feel made from scratch for you and very personal. There is also a roof top bar serving very nice cocktails to complement the views. The hotels is a 2 minute walk from the town centre and the main gondola. There is a wide variety of shops, bars, restaurants etc. I can't vouch for the nightlife as this was a family holiday but I believe it's very lively. Towards the end of the stay, the whole area was hit by a storm that knocked out the power for 24 hours. How did the hotel staff react? They simply continued on serving their guests as best they could by communicating clearly and going out of their way to ensure everyone was comfortable, fed (including free dinner, drinks etc) and impacted to the least extent possible. I have to finish this review with a(nother) word about the people that work at The Secret and truly make it what it is. They seem like a tight knit family and not a collection of individuals that may only be there for a few months as we experienced at another nearby (locally famous) hotel later in our trip. They are each extraordinarily personable, polite, helpful and perhaps above all genuine.
