Incredible location, very peaceful. Villas are huge and very clean & comfortable. Hotel staff is super helpful and the food is quite nice. Great weekend getaway spot. Will definitely visit again.

I really enjoyed the vacation, the whole food is delicious and there is a lot of variety. But the buffet for dinner is different day by day, if you want to try something on another day, then it simply may not be there anymore. There is no any shops on the territory, you can not buy snacks, sunscreen or smth what you could forget to take.

The resort is beautifully located. You get there only by the hotels boat service that charges around 30€ per person for every round trip (5-10min one way). That boat only departs/arrives every 2 hours.
There is a beautiful reef in front of the hotel however the waters in front of the hotel as well as at the private beach are full of plastics and I’ve never seen anyone collecting some. This place could be much more beautiful without that.
Food was very basic at a rather high price. If you compare it to KK restaurants the prices are ridiculous. But because of the boat service’s price you don’t really have the choice to go to the city to get good and reliable food.
All staff were really nice eventhough not always well trained.
Overall we had an average stay. Nothing extraordinarily positive but not too bad on the other hand. Therefore the prices for everything from accommodation to food to activities (almost everything charges extra) has been way too high in our opinion.

Gaya Island Resort is a posh way to end a two-week trip of roughing it around Sabah.
Rooms are located in exotic tropical setting, with wildlife nearby. Activities are fun way to explore the island, especially the night walk, when we saw snakes and lizards.
Swimming is relaxing at the pool but not so great in the sea unless you are snorkeling or kayaking. Not too much plastic in the water but it still plagues even this beautiful setting.
Note that once you arrive on the island, you are pretty much isolated from Kota Kinabalu unless you want to pay extra for a boat ride.

Beautiful hotel with a great breakfast and lovely nearby beach that can be accessed by hotel boat transfer.
The best part was the service, particularly Hani, who was attentive and super helpful throughout via WhatsApp.
