Villa Space

We stayed here for 2 nights, we booked last minute on a bit of a whim. The location was at the top of quite a steep hill. Once we opened the gates we were amazed ! There are 6 rooms in this villa and you can rent the whole thing if you like! We were the only guests there from what we saw so it felt very special! The room was amazing, the bathroom was partly outside and was so pretty. The decor was like something we had never seen before, antiques picked up from the owners travels to Asia, India and Sri Lanka, everything unique and breathtaking ! The view from the balcony was the best, high up with a view of the trees, plants, palm trees, beach and sea. With relaxing chairs and even a telescope. This is hard to beat! The food - we had breakfast, lunch and dinner here, the breakfast was $18 each but totally worth it, fruit, curd, juice, coffee, rotti, dips, string hoppers, it was amazing. We also had fish for lunch and a big mix of curries in the evening. The food and drink here is pricey but it is worth it. The only downside was the area, we were not fussed on the vibe of the place. It had nothing on Mirissa or places further south. That being said, I would go back just for Villa Space !
VillaWatuna

We spent a wonderful time here from 13 to 23 October, we had number 11. It's just delight - you live like in the jungle. Come out on a huge beautiful balcony and listen to the sounds of nature, rain.. Watch birds, palm proteins, insects ❤ Very good, responsive and hospitality hosts, family hotel with pleasant non-invasive service and excellent staff. In the room everything is, cleaning every day, changing clothes/twitter once every 3 days, everything is clean, beautiful! No living in the room was ever, just as the mosquitoes! A normal standard breakfast, always ripe and delicious fruit - pineapple, papaya, mango, egg dishes, toasts, butter, jem - we had enough. To the ocean 3-4 minutes, if you walk through any restaurant on the shore. Near the shops, fruit shops. In the evening, the calming mantras from the temple of Devol Devalaya are heard.. Wish Villa Watuna good luck and prosperity, and the owners of health and happy life! I advise everyone this wonderful place for relaxation and rest from the noise of big cities.
Hotel J Ambalangoda
3.4/530 Reviews
Hotel J exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making our stay pleasant from start to finish. Conveniently located on the main road, it was easy to access all the local attractions. The rooms and facilities were impeccably clean, offering great value for money. We were particularly impressed by the excellent views from our room, which were stunning even at night. The hotel features a unique swimming pool with a net for games, providing endless entertainment for both kids and adults. The food experience was one-of-a-kind, with delicious and well-presented dishes that our child absolutely loved. Overall, Hotel J offers a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and unique amenities, making it a fantastic choice for any traveler. Highly recommended!
Ahu Bay
4.7/555 Reviews
We stayed at Ahu Bay for 3 nights at the end of our 2 week honeymoon trip around Maldives and Sri Lanka. This hotel was by far the best hotel we stayed in throughout our trip, and possibly one of the most luxurious we have experienced in Asia. The staff are all incredibly attentive and friendly - it was clear they really cared about customer service, down to little details such as a daily newspaper from our home country. The food here was a big highlight. As self-proclaimed ”foodies” the service and menu here was excellent. We stayed half-board and my only complaint is that I couldn't finish it all! We treated ourselves to the candlelit beach gourmet dinner which I would highly recommend. After dinner we watched a turtle laying eggs on the beach about 30 meters from where we were sat which was an incredible experience. The room was immaculate and we were fortunate to be upgraded to the pool suite which was a very nice touch. The bed was super comfy the pillows were literally perfect. The only downside (if I can really call it that) is that during our stay there are some construction works going on next door for a new hotel. Clearly this can't be helped but the noise was very minimal and can only be seen from the beach. We would definitely revisit this hotel if we ever get the opportunity to again - worth every penny!

Tabula Rasa Resort & Spa
4.6/543 Reviews
This hotel is in a beautiful setting with a lovely pool and very friendly staff. Our room was nice although we had expected it to feel a little more special than it was given the marketing and association with Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH). The dining experience was okay although limited, we wouldn't want every meal in-house, luckily there are a small number of other hotel restaurants nearby, KK Beach was a particularly nice Hotel and restaurant just a short tuktuk ride away with really good food and service. As lovely as the staff at Tabula Rasa are, some could do with good service training and Gin and Tonic is always a good test. At Tabula Rasa the G&T arrives as a glass with a measure of local gin (no choice) and a bottle of tonic water, everywhere else including KK Beach we were offered a choice of gin, ice and lemon already in the glass. To their credit, Tabula Rasa did bring ice and lemon each time after we asked for it. The wine list was disappointing, there wasn't one, it was red or white and sometimes there was a choice between two reds or two whites but not always, I have to say that it's not very Small Luxury Hotels in respect of food and drinks. The manager was very nice and asked us to leave a nice review because the rating has been slipping, I understand why. I really hope they can improve in the small areas needed because it really is a lovely oasis in the hills.
