The lodge has a years gone by feel to it, with a guest lounge, honesty bar, books and board games. The rooms are very much in need of refurbishment, but were clean, a good size, with an ensuite bathroom. Plenty of parking just across from the room. The breakfast was serve yourself, not a big selection but adequate. There is another pub/hotel a few minutes walk away which was a good place for dinner.

I wanted a double bed. I had two singles pushed together making a king size. Instead of using a king size duvet - the bed had two singles. Tea and coffee in the room.... Paper cups! £120/night for paper cups. And they're mostly made of single use plastic. Shaver point to charge a toothbrush... Only worked when the shower room light was on. I had a terrible night's sleep because of the racket from all the other room's extractor fans being turned on and off throughout the night. 1980s decor and not improved on since. Flimsy curtains - which for blocking out light were absolutely useless. Breakfast. First hunt the allocated table. Completely random and non-sequential in allocation. Porridge could be generously described as lukewarm, and was oversalted. Toasters and bread were in two locations on different levels of the dining room. Only one location had plates. All the ingredients seemed to be the cheapest possible. Internal fire doors - all wedged open. On a positive note (and there is only one)... The showered cubicle was quite large.

This hotel is comfortable and clean in a beautiful setting, a short walk from the harbour and the beach and a 5 minute walk from a marvellous restaurant. The staff had thought of everything to make checkin, check out and breakfast as efficient as any hotel I have seen. The breakfast was first class and I enjoyed a very happy one night stay in a very welcoming place. I thoroughly recommend it

A very comfortable stay at this conveniently located hotel set in amongst lovely countryside. Nothing too much trouble, good breakfast. Would stay here again. The co-located pub next door does great food but a table reservation is a must. Honesty bar in hotel lounge is a nice idea for travellers.

We stayed one night. The hotel is in a lovely position. Our room was clean and was a good size. The two beds pushed together were comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and clean but at 05.30 there was no hot water in the shower. It seemed ok after 06.00 so presumably on a timer which didn’t help us as we had an early start. The WiFi was very good. We were not so keen on the paper cups for hot drinks in the bedroom. It’s a short but hilly walk to the local inn for dinner. The staff at the inn were not welcoming, which made us feel quite uncomfortable. The breakfast in the hotel was average.

We had a lovely stay in our sea view room: the bed was super comfortable and the view from our window was beautiful. I liked that the windows opened, we had a tea kettle, and the breakfast was plentiful. The location was good, walking distance to a beach and pub nearby and other amenities were a vigorous walk away in Gairloch.

The food was very nice if you eat the toast and Nutella. The reception guy was very very defensive about asking if the room was noisy. Yes it is. Bang goes the front door, bang. Everyone's conversation on entry noisy. The bed was comfy if you have a bunk bed otherwise the smallest double bed in the world. Only come here if everywhere else is full. And you'll pay too much for unwelcoming, dirty, tired, and weird surrounds. Breakfast is not good. Random pre order system that doesn't yield anything, it's a buffet of all the stuff anyway with no table service! Avoid unless you have nowhere else left to book

This must be secret hidden reality show.. no dinner, bar is self service and the manager gave e a row for not using the reception phone to call reception when he could clearly see me standing at reception...

This hotel sits high up from the road through Charlestown, being a 5 minute walk from their sister hotel and the harbour and about 35 minutes walk into Strath Bay where there more facilities, more accommodation and the excellent Myrtle Bank Hotel. We had booked a room with a loch view and although the loch was not immediately in front of us the view was a very pleasant one. The room itself was rather tired with mismatched bedding, curtains, carpet, furniture and rather dull brown towels which did not look fresh. While not dirty, other than the bathroom door which could have done with a wipe, its overall look was a bit grubby. However, the bed was comfy, the heated towel rail was efficient and the shower worked well and was easy to use. The breakfast room is light and airy and the breakfast was good - a mixture of self service and hot food cooked to order. As the GHL does not serve dinner, we had booked 3 evening meals at the sister hotel, The Flowerdale Inn, near the harbour. In the event, we only ate there the first night as the service and menu choice were both awful (See my separate review). On a very positive note, the staff at the GHL were all very friendly and helpful and the laundry service was quick and excellent value. As in many places staffing appeared to be a difficulty and we got the impression that they were a little relieved when we asked for our room not to be serviced. That said, they were anxious that we had what we needed, Overall the hotel is in need of some tlc - a lick of paint, updated furnishing and not least the replacement of the 'C' from the outside Reception sign, as this does not give a great initial impression. Were it possible I would have given 3.5* as the staff were lovely.
