This is not an easy review to write because the experience was very mixed depending on the aspect of the stay to be evaluated. On some level, this is a very special place: amazing location with stunning views, beautiful common areas, spacious rooms. On another level, there are so many things that could be significantly better if the owners/management invested in training their staff with some very basic rules of hospitality and attention to detail. It is truly a pity because the potential for this property to provide a truly unique experience is certainly there. The staff is nice and the attitude is positive, but they are young and inexperienced so one leaves with the impression that nobody has taken the time to properly train them and that the owners have no understanding of what guests that frequent these type of properties expect. The list of things that were well below expectations include: 1) A restaurant with very high prices for the quality of food served and so few choices on the menu. During my 6 day-stay, the menu was essentially the same with only 3 choices for appetizers, main course and desert. Furthermore, everything in the menu has the same price, appetizers $30, main course $50 and dessert $30. Once I had an inedible mushroom soup (way too salty), pasta and asked for just one scoop of ice cream (which was a side for one of the desert options) and was charged a total of $80. If the menu only has 3 options (which is fine for a small lodge), the chef should change it daily. 2) The road leading to the hotel inside the property is in terrible condition. It should be fixed. 3) Little attention to detail from the housekeeping staff. In rooms with double occupancy, only one glass of water was left night after night (instead of two). If you need a drink at night there’s a single “honor” bar for all rooms that is not replenished so often there was no bottled water in the middle of the night. 4) Inconsistent service in the pool area and spa. Nobody in sight to offer you drinks. The staff didn’t know how to prepare drinks in the menu. 5) In a place where most people do outdoor activities, not only they didn’t offer you water to take with you but they had no bottled water to take with you. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that the price/quality is very low.
