The building itself is old, but all facilities are clean. The room layout is easy to use, there is plenty of storage, and the kitchenette is equipped with a microwave oven, refrigerator, cooking utensils, tableware and cutlery. There are many restaurants within a 5-minute walk, as well as supermarkets and the coastline square. Conveniently located within 5 minutes from the bus stop for Funchal city and airport. The breakfast buffet, which changes little by little every day, was full of variety, although there was nothing special about it. The view of the mountains and sea from the balcony is very beautiful, and I thought it was an inn with excellent cost performance.

Our second trip to Monumental area and first to Mimosa. Great location for walking into Funchal centre and also for walking in the opposite direction to Camara de Lobos. Yes the hotel is up a hill but nothing too taxing. Our room was on the 9th floor and had a good balcony with a great view of the sea. The studio was large and well laid out. The beds were comfortable. We only needed to use the kettle and the fridge. The bathroom, like the rest of the room, was exceptionally clean with a good shower and working hairdryer. The towels were changed when requested. The breakfast buffet was superb with everything you could think of and more with perfect coffee at the touch of a button. There is seating both inside and outside on the terrace. The pool is a good size with the sun coming round about 10am until 6 pm. I would recommend this place and would return in future.

We spent a week at the Mimosa hotel at the beginning of August. The Tui coach dropped us off at the bottom of the steep hill up to the hotel. Checking in was efficient and both lifts were working up to the 6th floor, although there was only one lift working during the rest of the week. The balcony had a table and 2 chairs and the views of the pool and sea were amazing. The apartment was basic with 2 single beds, but no air con or fans and there was some traffic noise from the road. There was a shower in the clean bathroom, but we had to climb into the bath to use it. Although the kitchenette had a microwave and minimal amount of plates and cutlery, it did not have a kettle or toaster. The apartment, however, included a TV, fridge and hairdryer. Breakfast was included and offered ample selections of cereals, fruit, cheese, ham, nuts, cooked breakfast and bread and cakes, although the cooked food could have been warmer. There was also coffee, tea or fruit juices available, with inside and outside seating an option. There was an outside swimming pool (cool) and a toddler pool with plenty of sun beds surrounding them – also an inside pool. There are tennis courts, a Jacuzzi, sauna, spa and gym. The food at the pool side was very good and the bar staff were both friendly and helpful. The apartment was cleaned most days by cheerful staff. There was some entertainment at the pool bar, which everyone seemed to enjoy. The rooftop bar has fabulous views, but doesn't seem to be used to its full potential. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, as well as local buses to explore the island and visit Funchal. Altogether this was a pleasant summer holiday for our family.

Our stay at Mimosa Hotel was good. We were on a high floor (9) so a very good view from the balcony. Initially, we were met with a rude lady on reception who was awkward about checking in, we understood that we needed to wait to check in (3pm) but even at 14:55 the receptionist was particularly awkward about the room. We were on half board so before we went up to the room we had to pick what time we went for our evening meal either 7-8,8-9 or 9-10pm we opted for 7-8pm. However the same rude receptionist then said we couldn’t go at that time and had to come at 9-10pm which is ridiculous. We ended up going at 7-8pm anyway and took no notice and we always got a table it wasn’t busy. Other than that the other staff members were very pleasant. And no other complaints. The room was cleaned very well each day. The food at breakfast was ok, I don’t eat hot breakfast but the cereal was alright. The evening food was also ok nothing special, it was a bit limiting for vegetarians but I didn’t mind what was put on offer. We did eat out one of the nights in a lovely Indian called Chef Guru I’d definitely recommend it was exceptional. The hotel is in a great location, the hill is steep-ish that it is on but not as bad as some people make it out to be in the reviews it’s just like the rest of Funchal. There’s lots of restaurant near bye and a spar and also a pingo dance supermaket which was cheaper and much larger. You can catch the bus into Funchal from a couple streets down but it’s very busy, so we opted to walk. The walk is very lovely not too hilly and about 40-45 minutes. We didn’t utilise the pool as the sun wasn’t on many sunbeds in the morning we opted for lido beach club and paid there it was very reasonable €5.50 entry fee then extra for sun beds, it also has a nice restaurant inside, I would recommend going here if you want full sun all day, here there is also access to the sea. Overall, our experience was good some people are very negative in the reviews but our room was lovely and had a ceiling fan and all amenities. It was good for what we paid for it. I would recommend if you’re wanting a good deal for a holiday that’s in a good location.

We came last year and it was lovely so we returned again this year. . Totally different this time. Substandard room. Only one power socket in room. The room was grubby and in need of refurbishing. No kettle. Kitchen was in a cupboard supposedly! Will not be returning again and will no longer be recommending it. Booked a double room but got a totally useless third bed taking up room. Staff said unable to swap room. Very disappointed!

The hotel was in a good location near the Lido. There is a nice reception and was clean. NIce pool, sauna and jacuzzi, alongside outdoor area. The walk up to the reception is very steep - if you are not mobile - this would be a challenge. The lady on reception was always a bit stressed, so came across as a little unfriendly, though this was not the case. The rooms were decent and comfy beds. Breakfast was disappointing - the hot food was often cold and in poor supply. Not a great breakfast in comparison to others.

An honest opinion. The hotel is on a steep slope, 150 steps upwards, we thought there was a courtesy buggy but told on arrival there wasn't. ALL the receptionists were not very helpful bordering on being rude. A thankyou or a smile would have been welcome! The restaurant staff were also the same, non smiling, blank looks and disinterested. The outside poll bar eatery was very nice, the food and the staff were very good. We had a ocean facing room on the eighth floor which was good though a little worn, but the whole ok. We used the local buses that were efficient although be aware if you are a standing passenger as the hurtle around bends and stop abruptly. Would I go back to the hotel, perhaps not as it is a bus ride away from the centre of Funchal.

I would have rated this hotel more if it wasn't for the fact that there was no air conditioning. Our room had a fan that broke and part of it fell off (thankfully not when we were in bed) the fan in the bathroom wasn't working the full week we were there despite reporting it more than once to reception. The food was good. There was a good choice and the staff there were friendly for the most part. Unfortunately some weren't approachable, but most were very helpful. Two lifts seemed to be running, but never always at the same time as there seemed to be maintenance there a lot. I would strongly suggest that the hotel itself make everyone aware upon arrival that they charge per bottle of TAP water at the end of your stay. This was never made clear to us until we checked out. Coffee was only available in the morning with breakfast but there was a charge out with breakfast hours. Another suggestion to the hotel, if you are advertising a kitchenette area, at the very least have tea and coffee available for guests in every room. I would also like to point out that on the internet and on the bathroom mirror there are very outdated charges when it comes to towel hire for the pool area. It states on the sign in our hotel room that towel hire is €1 per person. This is now €25 deposit per person which I think is a bit steep regardless of getting your money back. Please change this so future guests do not get confused with misinformation that should be a priority to update for paying customers at your hotel. The cleaning staff were efficient and friendly. My only qualm was one day they weren't so vigilant when it comes to bathroom towels as they swapped ours out for towels with holes and rips in them other than that I have no complaints with them. The advertisement for the rooftop bar isn't so much a bar, just empty of staff and never open, same for the bar to the left of reception. It's a shame because there's so much potential to make it better. This is just an honest upfront review. I don't mean to complain, it's more a suggestion or a nudge in the right direction for future purposes so that there's no confusion for future guests.
