Funchal Design Hotel

Small hotel.Room was almost L shaped but included small kitchen, dressing area, seating area, shower room as well as bedroom so plenty of space. Breakfast had a good choice, was of excellent quality and staff were very friendly and helpful. There is no communal area or rooftop terrace so this is a hotel for those who want to be out and about for most of the day. In the respect the location is very good for central Funchal and is sufficiently close to the sea front as to not involve much of a hill climb on the return journey.

Great location close to the mall and city center. Friendly helpful staff. I look forward to a future stay when I visit again. Thanks Maryluz for the great hospitality!

Excellent little hotel in the city centre. Fantastic little rooms very nice design and loved my room with a view. The service was absolutely first class from all the staff from the moment I arrived I felt so welcomed by the lovely lady I don’t remember your name but you were fantastic. Also the girl from venezuela who served me in breakfast was amazing as was the chef. I can’t wait to return to Funchal and will book here first or the sister hotel Quinta Mirabela which has excellent facilities sauna steam jacuzzi swimming etc. Well done guys see you soon. We stayed for 7 nights (Jan 18-25). We were very satisfied. It's a few minute walk to the city center. Small hotel but the rooms are clean and spacious. Very good breakfast with freshly fried/scrambled eggs. Great staff. Special thanks to Barbara and Maryluz.

After many years of travel I finally found my perfect hotel, this was more like visiting family than a strange hotel, being recently bereaved and almost an octogenarian I found their patience and understanding was a welcome not so usually found, led by the wonderful Maryluz, receptionist, and restaurant supervisor they fussed over me like a mother hen, This is a wonderfully clean hotel with spacious rooms with king sized beds set in a great location minutes from Funchal center, the restaurant is really nice and breakfasts were the best i have had anywhere with a wide range of cold meats, fruit juice etc and cooked breakfast cooked to order then served at table along with a pot of coffee, the rooms are cleaned everyday with clean towels provided, there is also a safe in the room but best of all the care and friendlyness of all of the the staff, Maryluz is a wonderful lady and made my holiday a joy even giving me a cuddle when i left so thank you Maryluz and all the staff at the Funchal Design i hope to see you all again someday and i will certainly recommend the Hotel to anyone visiting the beautiful Island of Madera

It WAS monday. We landed in Funchal at 1 pm. After a nice coffee and a brake we went to the cocktail party at the Hotel. There were se several foreigners and some of our Finnish bridge players. Nice cocktail party.

arrived in the evening on friday 8th with my mother who is 82 and having treatment for cancer first impression was that the reception area was very small, the room was small ,thought there would be a small kitchen but there was none, no coffee/tea making facilities, no fridge, no iron, thought this was a four star hotel? spoke to manger the next day but told i had booked the double room it was the apartment that had the kitchen, my error, not able to move to another room because hotel was fully booked, no comfy chair in the room for my mother to sit on just 2 hard backed chairs, bathroom door was see through and would not lock kept sliding back, told management on the sunday who advised that maintenance had a day off so was advised to use a towel to keep the door from sliding back. restaurant was small only one staff member to take orders , serve and clean the tables , shout out to leticia who worked very hard, very pleasant lady as were housekeepers , no lounges no where to sit outside , no gardens by this time we decided to return back to england on monday instead of friday , my mother told me she felt she was in a prison, on the day we left we were offered a apartment but we had enough and could not change our plans again, this is not a place for a elderly person , very basic and small , madeira is beautiful and will come again but to a better hotel

Nice but small room. Very quiet place and area. No disturbance from traffic. Very nice and extremely helpful waitress Leticia. She gave us a warm welcome and we felt us at home. The breakfast was very good and healthy and you could see she has passion for her work and always has the customer focus which we really appreciate.
