Superb service: friendly professional staff who take the time to chat with you. Excellent food in both the Avista and Rose Garden restaurants. Especially the differing choice of grilled fish of the day- I tried some I'd never heard of before and all were delicious. Our suite was spotlessly clean and exceeded our expectations for space and comfort with a view to die for. Infinity pool lovely with loungers and parasols; not crowded and very peaceful despite a small amount of road noise and some building work in the distance. Hotel even inform you of when they plan to cut the grass to help you plan your day! Brilliant service. Mainly older couples which suited us fine. Entertainment in Cliff Bar in the evenings but this was low key and not especially lively but pleasant enough for a drink after dinner. We didn't venture out in the evening but people we chatted to said there are some good restaurants locally. Taxi into Funchal about 7 euros but buses stop right outside hotel. Hotel offer some great trips which we took advantage of: food market and chef's tasting table was great as was the catamaran trip. All in all I cannot fault this hotel and would love to return...

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Fantastic, friendly service which is second to none. We enjoyed a gorgeous suite with a fabulous lounge and even our own lift! View is just amazing - I watched my sister’s cruise ship arrive! Breakfast is a scrumptious affair, every possible choice available, not forgetting the very welcome, sparkling wine. The pool/jacuzzi area so peaceful and relaxing. The gym looked good. I am sure the spa would be lovely too but I didn’t have time to try. Thank you to all the most fantastic staff for making our stay so amazing.

Overall an excellent short break. Comfort first rate as was the service. The peacefulness of the hotel Suites makes it a very relaxing venue. All services and staff do their utmost to make sure your stay is perfect.

We stayed in a duplex suite for 5 nights. This was the quietest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. Lots of room and we appreciated the excellent housekeeping service 2x per day. Breakfast was included in our rate and it was delicious. Menu items and buffet were included. The servers were friendly and upbeat and made us feel very welcome. The location is stunning. The sea views and infinity pool were amazing. Dozens of restaurants within walking distance. This hotel easily earned 5 stars for comfort, cleanliness and service but there is room for improvement. The sofa in our room was old and worn out. The hotel has a 1980’s style. We visited the pool every day but they never came by to check on us or offer drink service. If you want anything you need to go to the bar to order. Perhaps that is their custom. We want to thank the staff for a wonderful experience. Everyone was warm and welcoming.

We wanted somewhere special to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. At Cliff Bay Suites we found it. This was the nicest hotel my wife and I have ever visited (and we have been to lots over the years!). The staff were delightful and very helpful. The accommodation was luxurious, and the food in the restaurant was top notch. The view from our room was heavenly. We hope to return.

Stayed 5 days at Les Suites and it was a wonderful time. The room was very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I only wish the room service menu was bigger but when you call Room Service, they are actually really helpful and do everything possible to accommodate. For example, there is no soup on the RS Menu but that didnt stop them from delivering one to us from a restaurant on property. The pool was nice and quiet and the food was really delicious. Reception is really helpfful in providing activities and guiding us around the island. They truly went above and beyond and I can't thank them enough. Would definitely stay here again and/or try any of their other PortoBay hotels.
