Really disappointed with our Sunday lunch here. Portion sizes were absolutely tiny – you leave feeling hungry, which should never happen after a Sunday roast. The prices were ridiculously high for what we got, and the food itself was extremely average at best (if anything, quite bad). Nothing about the meal justified the cost, and overall it felt like poor value for money. Wouldn’t recommend and definitely won’t be returning.

Just don't expect it to be open. They often close fully 4 hours before their advertised hours. Always phone well ahead of your expected arrival and have them confirm that they will actually be open when you do in fact intend to arrive.

We called in today for a drink and a meal, met by an inhospitable and curt man behind the bar who continued to ignore us. After five minutes wait with no acknowledgement decided to leave. Having just read the reviews feels like we had a lucky escape. Much better welcome and service down the road at The Roebuck Marlborough.

Nice people, good service even with their struggle to get staff and the food was lovely. Not overpriced just the same as everywhere else. Our 3rd visit on the way back from various trips and yet to have been dissatisfied. The pies are tremendous bravo to their supplier.

Never have I felt so compelled to write a review!! Just received appalling service at the pelican. I went to meet a friend for a drink this evening. We got there at 8pm, at 8.45 we were informed the pub closes at 9pm. (Advertised as open until 11pm) my friend said ‘oh could we order a cup of tea then please’… only to receive this response.. ‘only if you think you can finish it within 15minutes?’ I have no idea how this pub is still running if they talk to all their customers like this. You want to feel welcomed as a customer, not unwelcome.

Very disappointed with the food. What we ordered was very basic with no finesse. The chips looked like they were frozen, not hand cut and the garnish some ripped lettuce leaves. For the price we were ripped off. We've been previously and it may just be the new owners trying to learn the business. If you're going for a drink only, it's a lovely pub to go to, but not for the food.

Terrible let down for my 60th birthday treat. Two of the Sunday dinner meals pre ordered were gluten free. When mine came it was the size of a small child's meal. A small slice of pork the size of my phone screen by the time I had removed the fat . 3 roast potatoes each the size of a new potato, 3 bits of parsnip, 3 carrot sticks and 3 very under cooked green beans. No apple sauce. The meal took me 5 minutes to eat and I was still hungry afterwards. The staff came round with a dessert menu which they left on the table. There were no gluten free desserts listed on the menu which made things very awkward for my children who had organized the meal as a birthday surprise for me. My father was also gluten free and was struggling with his age to understand he couldn't have a pudding. Luckily my daughter had bought a cake along for me so we asked for that to be bought to the table. We cut the cake and then as everyone had nothing else to eat or drink the celebration was bought to an abrupt end. We paid our bill but were asked three or four times if we were willing to pay a service charge on top. We did not, the food was awful, inadequate, the staff serving us never came to our table to check if we required anymore drinks through out the whole meal. The dessert menu was bought to the table but no one ever came to take any order from us for either puddings or coffees etc. We had to ask for our cake box back so we could transport my cake home, but it had been ripped open so badly we weren't able to secure the cake resulting in it tipping over on the journey back spoiling it. I would have complained at the time but I didn't want my children to feel bad as they had booked this family get together off their own backs. I know they felt awful about the situation too.

Manager was vile never had so much disrespect from a staff member felt very patronised will not be coming or recommending this place to anyone , I felt very out of place and did not get the help I was required the receptionist seemed to have more respect then the one who ran the place !! People need to start waking up on the right side of the bed !

We always book B&B (breakfast included in price) so imagine our surprise when checking in we were told that there was no breakfast! We could buy, at extra cost, a continental breakfast bag. Hence only two stars! The manager was apologetic but we also had it on our papers. We chose the Pelican because it was exactly the same price but with breakfast as a nearby place without breakfast! Anyway, we had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant in the Pelican, so we can recommend that. The room was cold - single glazed windows and a not very warm radiator but there was an electric heater in the wardrobe which we used. There was no heating in the bathroom but the water was hot. The bed was comfortable but the room needs to be brought up to a modern standard of comfort and decor.
