Aplite House is an architectural solar passive, solar powered home, built from Tasmanian materials. The 200 acre property is located at Friendly Beaches, between Bicheno and Coles Bay, it fringes the iconic Freycinet National Park on three sides.
Inside, the house presents work by Tasmanian artist's. Great care has been taken to showcase Tasmania. The size and location of the property enable privacy and tranquility with easy access to the wonderful natural locations in Freycinet National Park.
"The hotel is built on the mountain, with only 8 guest rooms, strictly speaking, 8 container-like board rooms. Although small, it has everything. Except for the bathtub, it has all the facilities and supplies that a hotel room should have. The space is a bit cramped, but compared with the beautiful scenery and fresh air on the mountain, that can be ignored. The key point is that there are not many people. Except for the single-digit hotel service staff and the guests within 20 people, there are no tourists. If you are the only one staying in a room on a certain night, you will feel like the king of the mountain. It's awesome.
Although the hotel service staff is small, the service is thoughtful. Dinner and breakfast are both set meals with few varieties, but the food is hot and the dishes are fragrant, which is particularly delicious in this deep mountain. In general, it is a unique stay experience and worth trying."
"You get what you pay for and for this price, you can’t expect anything but a decent accommodation to stay at. And this place is pretty decent - clean place and sheets (not the best mattress nor couch) with just enough space to move around and a kitchen. Make sure to bring your own toiletries and some cleaners (sponges, chux, etc.), however, if you plan to cook/eat in the cabin. Unreliable wifi so better get data if you need it. Great location though as we just walked to the whaler’s lookout trail and there’s an IGA store just across the street as well."
"- clean room with 3 beds
- has body wash, shampoo and conditioner
- hotel has a laundry area (need to pay AU4 each for washing and drying + AU1.50 for the laundry powder)
- near the pool side but was closed for maintenance
- About 10mins walk to the restaurants and beach."
"I heard that you can hear penguins singing at night in the hotel. What a pity😞It was cold outside at night in August. I was excited to see a little blue penguin in the bushes by the sea while strolling. The Penguin Island in Melbourne is still large and needs to be booked in advance. The hotel front desk got off work early, so I picked up the key and checked in by myself. They are all single-family houses with terraces where you can watch the sunrise. The kitchen utensils are complete. It would be perfect if it was equipped with a washing machine."
"Spacious cottage, beautiful beds. However, the wifi is so poor from Redbill cottage that we cannot connect to internet. Telstra connection is very poor and intermittent. Hence, we have no internet connection during our stay at the hotel. The swim pool was not made available to use.
Free laundry is much appreciated."
"The location is very good, and the beach below is also beautiful. If the weather is good or you are brave, you can walk across the sea to the small island on the opposite side. I didn't dare to go because the sea was a bit big that day. Don't hold too high hopes for free penguin viewing at night. The white guy in the hotel was very responsible and chatted with us for almost two hours, but the penguins had to wait until the people who paid to see them finished before they could go. Some people said they saw one, but I didn't see one."
"Check in was easy and the staff was very friendly. I have stayed in other Big4 camps before that were considerably nicer. The electric bed heaters did not work and the unit smelled very strongly of cleaning product, so bad that we had to leave the windows open all night despite temperatures just above freezing. There are few options near Freycinet national park, but in retrospect I wish that we had paid more to stay at the Lodge within the National Park."
"The hotel is in Freycinet National Park, about 2.5 hours drive from Hobart Airport. Because it is right-hand drive, I was really not used to it at first. The whole island of Tasmania is S-shaped curves, and there are often wild animals crossing the road, so try to choose to drive when the sight is good. Freycinet Lodge has a good ecological environment. There is no gym or swimming pool, but the beach and forest park are a 10-minute walk away. Running 10 kilometers every day, breathing fresh air, and getting close to nature and wild animals, it feels great! The hotel’s own restaurant has good meals. If you want to eat something else, you have to drive out, which usually takes at least 15 minutes by car. We tried the hotel’s chartered boat and paddleboard activities, which felt great. When we went out to sea, we also saw seals basking in the sun, which was very cute. Looking forward to coming again next time!"
