The hotel was just ok. We found the room to be tiny and dreary. I wish we stayed somewhere else, but I will say the staff members were really nice and helpful. Location is good and the old town as well as train station are about 10 minutes away walking.

A conveniently located hotel in the picturesque city of Freiburg in the Black Forest. Clean modern and cute. Staff is very kind. Breakfast is efficiently arranged and convenien. a fair meal for the price. Seemed very filled with business men and women on their way to their appointmets.

What a find this was......... Easily accessible from the rail station & only a short walk from the city centre. Rooms are not the largest, but are thoughtfully designed with excellent storage and very adaptable lighting. Beds are very comfortable & there are external shutters to give a 'blackout' effect. Showers are easy to operate with a more than adequate stream & steady temperatures. But what really sets this place apart is the staff -- from management down there is a 'can-do' attitude which makes a stay here absolutely stress-free. A special shout-out to the gentleman manning the breakfast room during our stay -- polite, cheerful & nothing was too much trouble.

Wonderful staff, efficient and friendly service. Internationals made to feel welcome in the city. Location is close to the university on a neighborhood street, but still very close to the main Freiburg train station. Thanks for going above and beyond during my stay! Would highly recommend.

The Alex Hotel is a great place to stay if you want to be close to the main train station. The rooms are comfortable and the service at the front desk was extremely helpful and appreciated. Maybe a 10 minute walk to the train station the next morning. if we stop again in Freiburg, we will definitely stay at the Alex.

The staff were helpful, the decor neat, clean and modern and the rooms, while small based on the one we stayed in, were well designed so we did not have a problem. The location was only 10 minutes away from the old town and tourist places. There was a little noise at times from the corridor and adjacent rooms but not enough to disturb our sleeping. If we had any other minor issues (such as the lack of a bedside drawer or of coffee/tea making facilities) we would probably say it was due to being somewhat older than the target clientele. Overall an excellent place to stay in a lovely city.

We stayed for three nights at the beginning of June in an Alex Queen. Parking is an issue in Freiburg as no cars are allowed into the historic centre. So, we chose the Alex because being just outside the road that rings the centre, they do have a few parking spaces available (at a cost). The Alex is in a quiet area. The walk wasn't too far for us - about 15 minutes from Alex to centre. Our room was small but comfortable. The air conditioning worked well. The bed was perhaps a touch firm for me, but I got used to it. Breakfast was better than average. I really looked forward to the wonderful seeded loaf at the start of my day. The very best thing about the Alex though is their wonderful staff. You can tell that the management cares, because it shows through in the staff being able to be themselves and talk and act as they would want in offering the best service. I was particularly impressed with Simon and Christina. I unintentionally damaged two electrical sockets in our room by using a faulty UK adaptor. It was my fault completely and I told them as soon as I realised. Simon's first concern was to ensure that I could still charge my camera battery! The Hotel tried to fix the problem without replacing the sockets, but in the end that was what was needed and I paid them for the work. Quite right too, I damaged them.

Excellent modern hotel in a quiet back street about 10 minutes walk from the old town. The staff on reception were very helpful and the room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was also good. A couple of warnings: if you use the parking garage, the passageway to the basement is very narrow and steep. And the town of Freiburg gets very quiet after 9pm in the evening. The hotel has its own small (and reasonably priced) wine bar

Great hotel right outside the main tourist area. Quiet location but easy access. The rooms were new, clean but a little small but consistent by European standards. Rooms had AC but were on the warmer side. Nice bar onsite. Parking was offered. If you drive, you must have the required Environmental sticker on your car window. It is a green “round” sticker on the bottom right of the front window. If your car does not have it, you can secure one from the Rathaus before 4:00pm.

We liked our stay at this modern small-scale hotel very close to Freiburg's historic center. Rooms are comfortable, we enjoyed a friendly reception and a good breakfast. Note that the hotel does not have a dining restaurant and that parking in the vicinity is limited, but there are plenty of nice places to eat within walking distance and several parking garages at short distance.

We stayed one night in Freiburg en route between Beilstein and Fussen. The Alex Hotel was easy to access from the highway and parking was conveniently available (cost 10€). We thought the decor of the lobby etc and the room was attractive. Our room (#104) was an “Alex King” and we found it comfortable. (If you planned to spend many waking hours in the room it might seem small but it was quite adequate for us). Notwithstanding that the windows overlooked the street it was perfectly quiet and the blackout curtains worked beautifully. I appreciated that the bathroom amenities included both Kleenex and body lotion AND there was a nightlight which is such a simple convenience but so rare to find in a hotel. It was quick and easy to walk into the centre of town to visit the cathedral and the Augustiner museum before we left town. We appreciated that the hotel granted us late checkout which allowed us to do that. Strange though it may seem to eat Mexican food in Germany, we did just that on the night of our arrival. Just a few blocks from the hotel is a taco place called Yepa Yepa and it was amazing!! All in all we were very pleased with our stay.

The hotel is adorable. The rooms are tiny but just big enough for two people. They are wonderfully appointed and the showers are marvelous. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The bar is cozy and the breakfasts are just right.

The Alex is in a very good location, less than 10 minutes walk from the train station, but it is not easy to find the first time as it's located on a small street reached through some narrow walkways. The room we had was very clean with a comfortable bed and nice towels. On the negative side, there was no pot for heating water and no complimentary tea or coffee. The check-in was rather cool and inflexible. They could have upgraded us to a more appropriate room, based on our request for a room with less allergens, but instead asked us to pay extra for such room). The TV had no English channels. And at check-out time, there credit card machine was not working.
