Gamlebyen Hotel has a central location in Fredrikstad's charming old town, with several exciting restaurants, small shops and bakeries nearby. A short ferry ride takes you from the old town to the center of Fredrikstad. The hotel is located in a charming historic wooden building that creates a special setting for your stay. The guest rooms are small, but furnished in a historic and charming style that suits the hotel well. The hotel does not have air conditioning and some noise from the street outside must be expected if you open the window to ventilate. The bed was comfortable and the linen was clean and freshly ironed. The cleanliness was very good, which applied to both the room and the bathroom. A real rose in a vase in the bathroom helped lift the overall experience. The hotel's reception was not manned in the afternoon nor at check-out at 09:00 in the morning, which was experienced as negative and helped to reduce the overall impression. It also took some time to get the attention of the employee at check-in as she was smoking outside the hotel. I also missed a bit more interest and commitment from the employee. Here, the hotel has a lot to learn from other historic hotels. Breakfast was served in a room a few minutes' walk from the hotel. The breakfast was served as a buffet and contained a somewhat boring selection of hot and cold dishes. I missed more local products and a larger selection of both hot and cold food. The selection of vegetables was very limited. We had to wait over 15 minutes for coffee, which is unacceptable. The service at breakfast appeared unfriendly and lacked both a smile and a service attitude. Overall, I experienced getting little currency in relation to the price and based on this I will not recommend or visit the hotel again.
