Akademie Street Boutique Hotel

A beautiful, cozy and tranquil spot in the middle of wine country, it just doesn't get any better than Akademie. The staff are all so welcoming and helpful, the decor and design of the space is transportive and the mood is positive and relaxing. Stayed with my brother in a cottage with a private swimming pool and patio. The scenery puts you at ease and makes you want to just relax and enjoy. Wish we could've stayed longer! Cannot recommend this property highly enough.

Nicest best run small hotel i ever stayed in! Great attention to detail, friendly staff, large comfortable suites, private pool and wood burning hot tub and private fire place. Enjoyed it more than the One & Only we stayed in the night before.

This Boutique hotel is superbly fitted out art deco style with the most creative design. Everything has been thought of with regard to comfort and service. Our host Declan made us feel welcome even though we arrived before check in time! The attention to detail is second to none, would definitely stay there again. The location is also a big plus, outside the door parking and a 5 minute walk to restaurants and shops on the Main Street of Franschhoek.

This is the best boutique hotel we have ever stayed at; probably the best hotel full-stop. Every room is a feast for your eyes and senses. Too often, phrases like absolutely superb, first-class and truly delightful are used in reviews - in the case of Akademie Street, they are all true. The level of detail that has gone into creating your experience is breathtaking. Nothing is too much trouble—it is almost too good to write this review in case others come here and make it too busy for us to return! All of the team at Akademie Street are welcoming, attentive and courteous. They are led by Declan (an Irishman who has made his home in Franschhoek), who runs the hotel as if you are a guest in his spectacular home…Oh, to be Irish - did you know that fifty per cent of the world claims to be Irish, and the other fifty per cent, well, they lack ambition 🇮🇪 In case I forget to mention it, this place has been voted the best in the world on numerous occasions - if you follow in our footsteps, you will find out why. The Akademie Boutique Street Hotel is a very special and unique place. This was our second stay and the only thing that was a disappointment is that we didn’t book to stay longer! The location of the hotel is excellent; you are in walking distance (yes, it is very safe and we walked everywhere) from some of the wineries, the central area of the town, access to the wine tram and a lot of exceptional restaurants (The food at restaurant Epice, in the French Quarter was superb - one of the best dining experiences we have ever had to date - arguably Michelin Star quality – within a 5 minute walk). The main house itself and the other communal areas are wonderfully decorated; you can tell that a lot of time, passion and love went into the interior design, and it certainly has a wow factor from the moment you walk through the door. A great deal of attention and thoughtfulness went into the details to create what is an elegant, modern look with a touch of nostalgia and antique. Details like the wallpaper, the fabrics that have been used, the furnishings; they are organic yet luxurious - very stylish indeed and beautifully done. The pool area is stunning, as is the orangery area where you have breakfast (excellent and included) and where complimentary early evening drinks and night caps are offered (there is no lunch or dinner available at the hotel, however it is no wonder when Franschhoek is often referred to as South Africa’s Culinary Capital - there are so many amazing restaurants locally to choose from). This time we stayed in Vreugde which was stunning. It had an antique-luxurious theme and we loved it. The thought and care that went into the interior design of the main house is carried through into the room design and setup; they are all gorgeous rooms and there is nothing more you could possibly need. Every effort has been made to make you feel that this is your home away from home. We loved that there was a wood burner in the room and there was also a wood burning hot tub (divine!); the team were kind enough to ask if we wanted to use the hot tub in the evening and took care of lighting it and maintaining it for us, so that we could use it when we returned from dinner. So thoughtful and considerate! The service was excellent; the staff were all delightful and went above and beyond to take care of our every need. Their hospitality was warm, kind, thoughtful, personalized and genuine. Declan the Manager is lovely; he is charming, helpful and took the time to walk us though the property and take us through the map of the town etc. We enjoyed his company. The Akademie Street is a very special spot and we will look forward to our next stay. Thank you to the entire team for a fabulous stay, from Jennifer and Christopher.
