Fox Glacier Jade Hotel

While the exterior appearance was quaint the rooms were small, outdated, and the shower wouldn’t drain

As a room where we stayed for a night was clean and convenient. However, the whole building needs some maintenance.

The hotel is in very poor, unsightly, condition. The service at reception was absent to minimal. The room was clean but a little tatty despite being said to be one of their best. The TV was connected via WiFi whose channel was not connected to the internet. The satellite TV was not working. Both faults were beyond the capability of the staff to correct. I eventually reset & tuned the sat & its LNB myself. The nearby Bestsy Jane restaurant was great & improved the overall experience.

BEWARE We were very excited to come to Fox Glacier for our heli-hike tour. That is, until we drove into the ruins of Jade Hotel. We were greeted with an overgrown building, trash, and a sketchy appearance. The registration employee was kind but quickly rushed us out to search for our room. The room was dark, smelled of mold, had no AC or airflow, a plywood-like bed frame, and had leftover hair in the bathroom from previous users. If not for the cold outside air, we would have considered camping in the mountains. I am not sure where else you should seek refuge, but I would not recommend the Jade Hotel, despite its deceiving name. Best of luck and good travels.
